Here it is, the highly anticipated report regarding one of of the most challenging bodies of water in Oregon to fish, THE CANBY POND!  Although we were only able to cover about 1/8th of this massive 1 acre impoundment, we were successful in landing some of the wildest freshly stocked rainbow trout on God's green earth.  When I say we, I should say my oldest son Erik, since only kids 17 and under are supposed to fish here.  My youngest son was more interested in eating chips than fishing, but he is only 3.

Erik eating chips and waiting for the big one.

It took a little while to get them to start biting, but once we 'matched the hatch' (Berkley power bait flourescent yellow marshmallows), we started scoring on them.  Erik with the first of two 13+ inch trout we kept.

We caught another little trout we tossed back and allowed the self- release of  about 6 others.  ;D It was his first time trout fishing and he had a blast.

I was amazed at how old some 17 year old kids are looking these days (like the guy over my sons left shoulder in the first picture).  I could have swore that many of them were in their 30s and 40s. :P

Beautiful trout! The stuff that lifetime memories are made of. Thanks for sharing!

I have taken him out on my SOT, but it was just for a pleasure cruise.  Next step may be pleasure cruise with a few crawfish traps and a little bit of bass fishing on the Tualatin. If we don't catch fish we should be able to at least get a few crawfish to play with.  He is interested in any weird looking creature and enjoyed crabbing with me out of the pirogue at Netarts.
