What's your dominant hand and which hand do you prefer to crank with?

I'm a righty cranking lefty, though I can go both ways.  All my reels are lefty.

After some of the comments I can see the potential confusion.  Sorry.  The Poll has been reworded and the counts reset to zero.  Please reenter you earlier votes.

I'm not entirely sure what you're asking.

I'm right handed, but I hold the fishing pole with my right hand and crank the reel with my left.

Then again, if I'm cranking something like a trailer hitch, I'll start with my right hand.

But sometimes I make it a point to do it with my left hand to try and balance out grip strength and muscle tone.

Boy I made that really complicated huh?

Its not just you ;D

I hold the rod with my right and crank with my left... I wasn't sure which option covered that so I didn't vote? ;D

I go both ways ... errr, depending on whether spinning or conventional.

Spinning or casting rod?

I like to have my right (dominant) hand above my left.  I'm the same way with swinging a baseball bat or gulf club.  So with a spinning rod I hold the rod with my right and crank with my left.  With a casting or conventional reel I hold the rod with my left and reel with my right.

Spinning , reel in with left.  Casting, Cast with right arm, switch it over to left, reel in with right.  Penn squidder (Reel hanging from rod) reel in with left.
  Yeah that's it!

Cast with the right, switch hands and reel with the right for both spinning and casting.  I have tried to reel with the left, but it feels weird.

All my gear to include fly tackle is held in my left, and cranked by my right hand. Although I cast them all with my right hand then switch them over to the left. Except my fly rods. I cast/hold with my right, strip with my left, then switch hands if I need to put them on the reel. Wow that reads confusing ???.

Right-handed, with conventional casting hold rod with right, then switch hands and crank with right----spinning, cast with right hand, and crank with left.  It makes sense to convert my casting technique for a left-handed reel, dunno why I've never tried it!!

I don't have a difference between conventional/spinning, but things do change with the fly rod...

I thought I was goofy, but it sounds like several folks do the same as I do.  I'm right and dominant for damn near everything.

Bait casting, I cast righty, switch the pole to the left hand and reel with the right. For some reason I can't turn the crank on a lefty without looking like a retard.

However, with spinning gear, I again cast righty, and hold the rod righty, and reel lefty.  I can reel either right or left successfully, but can control the rod itself better with the right hand for the flipping, pitching, jigging and twitching.

Interesting.  I never considered that someone might handle casting and spinning rigs differently.  I need to check my fly gear because now I don't remember.

Same here although, since my rt. shoulder injury several years ago, I try to use my left arm whenever I think about it.  And one of the reasons I am starting to prefer the righty baitcaster reel.
