Trying to choose the right fish finder for my T13. It will be my first ever, I'm thinking the hummingbird PiranhaMAX Series finders. Any advice??

I have a humminbird but for the money I like the Eagle cuda series better.  I cant remember the number but the cuda with gps for 200 bucks seems like the best deal going.

I have a Piranha Max 220 in my Fish 'n' Dive. Pretty basic FF, but has served me well. Seems pretty spot on in showing the basics (depth, bait, structure, bottom, weeds). Pretty sure it would show accurate temps if I wasn't shooting through the hull. only real complaint is I think it shows me fish that aren't really there, and the only way to turn off the fish id is to use only the narrow beam. I just bought a Hummingbird 365i yesterday. Haven't used it on the water yet, but seems like a pretty slick unit. I proved to myself last season why a GPS combo unit is worth the extra $$. I'll be mounting it in my new Malibu X-13 that should be here in a couple of weeks :headbang: If it's with in your budget I would recommend a combo unit like the 365i or Eagle cuda 350s map. I kick myself for not going that route in the first place. The P-max should do you right though.

Thanks for the advice ;D, what about a color Vs bw screen?? it seems to me the color would be hard to see across the kayak, even with a sonar shield?

I have an eagle Fishmark 320.  I was going to buy another transducer for it for $70 so I could just move the FF from boat to boat. However, Fisherman's in Portland is selling the Cuda 300 for $79.99.  I figured for the extra $9.99 I would have a backup or 2 boats with their own FF.  One of which is rigged so it can be moved between my SIK, pirogue or canoe.

Piranha Max 160 portable,  Works great!  Bungeed to the RodPod cover and transducer through the scupper hole.  My kit looks like this.

Color looks cool, but it'll suck down your battery much faster than a B&W one will.  I had a Cuda168 and hated it.  If you plan on removing the display from the base/cable each outing I would stay away from the Eagles.  The cable pins in the display unit bend really easily and will eventually shear (Humminbird has a similar cable connection, but their mount ensures proper alignment everytime.)  I now have a Humminbord Matrix 17 and love it.  I picked it up for $130 at Sports Authority earlier this year; they have horrible stock turnover so you can find discontinued models there from time to time.

Was looking at FF today at Bi Mart in Grants Pass. They had the cuda 350 color for $149.00.
The only thing I didn't like was it only had the 60% transducer. I really like the
20/60 transducer. 20 for deep water and 60 for shallow water.
To everybody. Am I wrong on the 60% transducer ??? Does the 60% give good resolution at 75 feet or more ???

You still get good quality feedback in 75 FOW from the 60. I like it because you can use the 60 to help you find structure, and 20 to better pinpoint it.

From all the input, i got my eye on this one   http://www.amazon.com/Humminbird-Combo-Fish-Finder-Chartplotter/dp/B000KUMOQ8/ref=sr_1_27?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1277250608&sr=8-27  but I'm still going to look around. This fish finder stuff is like a whole new language.

If you already have a handheld GPS you can hook it up to this one pretty cheap with a cable.  the resolution is a little lower, but you gain a dual beam transducer.  The 20* is fine if you only fish deep water, but if you're fishing anything less than 30' you're going to be looking at a really small area on the screen... food for thought.  You can find this one for around $165 online.

I'm sure the 161 would more than fit the bill. Yar is right though; in shallow water you would really be looking at a small patch of turf. If you're good with that, I'm sure you would be happy with this unit.

You were able to find a stocked Matrix 17?  Wow.  I have 2 of those going 6 years strong.  I keep wanting to upgrade, but can't justify it in my mind until one of these breaks.  Still ticking ...
