Well, the first annual Sunset Bay Angler Of The Day Kayak Fishing Challenge went off without a hitch! Well, except for the big swell and crappy fishing. I think everyone had a good time anyway, I know i had a blast and i didn't even get on the water. This was my first time organizing an event like this and it was a great experience!.

Not as many people showed up as i expected, i'm sure the conditions had something to do with that. The 9 anglers that fished did an admirable job sticking it out in the less then ideal conditions and nobody came back in early seasick! The ones that didn't show up missed a great time.

Most everyone caught a fish, 6 people caught only one fish! yea, pretty slow. The three people(Dana,Paul,Greg) that stayed out the longest finished 1-2-3, which seems fitting.

Here is a few pics of the day to get the ball rolling, i know someone got at least a few on the water shots, i didn't get out, couldn't get it together before most people came back in:

I will post another thread with result and potluck pics

5 am comes pretty early..my buddy Dan squatted the spot at 4:30 AM for me to make sure we got it. The park was slow to fill up but it got crowded

The first wave.... The early birds were on the water by 6 am.

Dave and Justin contemplating the conditions, it was pretty rough early and only got marginally better later

A little later the next group is prepping for launch:

Craig and his badass new trailer, tough as...

Dana and Greg giving the competition the evil eye..ok, maybe not, probably just saying good morning to Paul

Gregs shiny new Hobie Outback

Craig and his shiny new Hobie Revolution

See ya on the water..

My day before the tourney "Pre-fish/Hobie test".

Just look at this gorgeous launch beach.  :o

Heading out into the ocean (looking back towards the beach).

Getting out to the fishing grounds.

Going to head under the light house walking bridge to get to the other side of the wall.

Lots of nesting birdies.

The other side, nice and flat.

Heading back through under the bridge.

Paul (PNW) and I taking a break on "Shortcut Sandbar", before heading back into the calmer Sunset Bay to retrieve his crab pot.

Check out these muscles Paul picked off the rocks.  I managed to get close enough to grab a HUGE one that is nearly the size of my Revo rudder.

Retrieving Paul's crab pot. (Video)

Tourney day pics. Not alot on the water pics, as it was kinda bumpy out there.  Most of these pics were in between nasty spells.

1st pic is a video (click it).

The day after.  Roy and I were going to try and get out on July 4th at 9am, but the wind and ocean conditions said otherwise.  We did meet up at 9am, but took his dogs to another beach for a good run instead.

Later in the day, we met up for some Hobie play time.  Just goofing around and checking out each other's rides.

Videos of Roy's Revo runs.

Fun playing around on the nice beach.

The best picture of the whole trip was after I got back from my shower, I climbed into the camper and saw this.  Both were snoring!  :angel13:
