Since today was the last possible day of 2010 to target inshore halibut, I thought that is reason enough to call in sick.  I made up my mind yesterday even though the forecasts were calling for a pretty crummy day.  "No guts, no glory!", I thought.  Well, the only guts I ended up with were those of rockfish so there isn't much glory to speak of here.  ::)

I got on the beach at 5:30, on the water at 6.  I was working for halibut for a solid three hours and not a sniff.  Didn't seem like anyone else near me was doing any better.  The early morning was pretty sloppy and improved slightly throughout my time on the water.  It was most certainly one of those don't-look-down-too-long days!

There were lots of Dorys out today as I'm sure you can imagine for the Saturday during Dory Days.  I was waiting for the wind to really start howling all morning, but it stayed pretty manageable all the way through when I was heading in a little after 12:00.  The sun came out sometime after 11:00 and made things really nice!

I had plenty or rockfish action when I switched from targeting halibut.  Ended up taking home 6 and left them biting.  No lings or cabbys.  I didn't hunt around much though.  Here's a double I picked up which was my last catch of the day.  The bigger one went around 18 in.

It was pretty busy on the beach and totally insane in the parking lot.  The fish fry was going strong when I was leaving the beach and the line looked really long.

Met ratagain on the beach and talked kayaks and fishing for a while. Nice to meet you!

Hope to get out there again soon!

Hey Yaknitup,

Gotta love your reports.  Nice photos and write ups.  New you would have an itch to chase some halibut with the season closing.  Just watch, and next trip out you'll have another late one ready to play.  When you do I want to hear about it.  Hope to see you on the beach or out around the rock.  Good Luck and Have Fun -

Alan

Nice report and pics. Looks like a real beautiful day on the water. Too bad the butts didn't want to come out and play though.

I've noticed that many of my bumpier moments on the water never turn out looking as rough in a picture somehow.
