Headed out to Chamber's Bay this Sat around 2:00 if anyone would like to join. There's a pretty good flood tide that afternoon/evening, and with any luck a flood of kings returning to the creek.

There is a gravel pull off on the creek side of Chamber's Creek rd just down from the marine dry storage. It's real easy to find on google earth. Just look for a slight bend in the rd just over from the marina, and zoom in. The marina is right where the creek dumps into the sound in Steilacoom. You'll know you are looking in the right spot if there is an orange, and a black truck parked there in google earth.

There's also parking at the mill just down the road from the launch.

Yeah that's the same spot we dropped in at a couple of weeks ago. I was planning to check out the Nisq Delta but we might join you instead. Is it worth dropping some pots out there?

I would say it is. I have seen quite a few crab both times I've launched there.

I can't make it this trip, but would be interested in another weekend trip in the south sound.

Hi,

I am not familiar with Chambers Creek but have spied it on google earth.  Looks like one of the trucks you mention has a yak on the roof, perhaps someone we know?  Anyway if I can escape the family I will try to make it down as I have wanted to fish south for some time.  Looks like the creek is pretty thin at low tide and not passable.  Can one paddle to the bay at higher tide or must one roll/carry their boat to the beach?

Thanks,

Tomas

There's a few reasons to get the right tides at the inner Chambers Creek launch. Mud, current.. and then there's mud, and current. The slog through it is a pain to say the least and the current that gets whipping under that bridge can keep you from getting to the other side. If you plan your launch on a high and ride it out, fish and ride it back in you're gonna have a lot better time.

If you don't want to deal with the hassle Sunnyside Beach Park is a lot easier.

BTW they do net in this area and when they do the fishing just about shuts down. I'm sure there's a schedule somewhere that states when they're going to be out there. It would be a very good idea to scope that before heading out.

On a dead low minus tide the creek is pretty much unfloatable, and the mud is is a pain. The current under the bridge will make you work up a sweat paddling against it, but not too hard to overpower. Sunnyside is an easier launch with no mud or current, and it's only a couple hundred yards down the shore from the creek mouth. If you have your doubt's about the mud/current, sunnyside will be a better launch for you. It's only a $5 fee to park there, and those of us that launch in the creek will be pretty obvious once you get out on the water.

heh,
hey, check it out. i found the ramp there at chambers, i think, and the veiw it shows supposedly has an "altitude" of 9 ft [ lower right corner]

when you zoom in to actually see the parking lot, the 3 vehicles that you see in the 1st veiw are gone, and there's only one in a totally different location.

play with this yourself and you'll see.

Your pin is near the mill 2ndflooryak was talking about. The corner between the mill and the marina is where I was talking about.

well, now i know how accurate Bing Maps are. that pin actually was generated by the software, i had nothing to do with it other than to type in the location. and scroll around looking at the streets and posible launch points.

always wondered how to get over there. have a coworker who has a raft that asked me today about joing us.. taking a map in in the morning to show him where it is, but going to warn him about the mud. trying to get him to get at least a yak or a canoe... rafts have thier place, but imho, i dont think this place is one of them.

Best of luck to you all on Saturday... I'll be a slave to my dear wife for the weekend.  Building up points for the Salmon Tourney.
