Biggest sea kayaking symposium of its kind with booths from all the major vendors.  It's a great place to demo yaks.  September 14-16.  I'll be there Saturday and Sunday and working the Ocean Kayak booth.

I'd love to go...pretty close to my home.  But I've always been scared off by the prices.

Do you have to pay to just walk around and look?

Yes.  It's $30 for a day pass on the beach to test out any kayaks that are being shown.  I know it seems a bit much, but if you're shopping for a new yak, this is the place to be able to try out anything that may be available in the NW.  Hope to see some of you there.  If you do attend, come visit me at the OK booth.  I'll also be fishing for silvers in the morning if anyone wants to join me.  No charge for that.  I'll probably just be launching from the beach out front.  If you want to demo something, let me know and I'll see if I can make one available for you!  And not just OK, I'll see if the other reps might be able to make something available.

Allen, when will you be getting there? Friday night or Sat.morning? I'm heading over Friday sometime. I'm up for some early morning fishing too before booth duty calls, either Sat or Sun or both.

Also, Allen's correct - the demo event does cost $30/day. But you can walk the beach, look at boats and talk to vendors for free all weekend. If you see anything you like and want to try, you can then sign a waiver and pay the $30 to get an arm band that lets you test paddle the boats. The arm band changes color daily, so make sure you can get in all your demos that day or you'll have to buy another one.

Greetings-

Carolyn and I are talking about going again this year.  It is fun just to walk the beach and talk with folks but there are some great classes too.  If we can get the kids taken care of, fishing for silvers in the morning would be great!

Sue, I'm going to try to make it over there on Friday evening, but I can't say for certain yet.

Allen,

The herd (my wife and kids) and I are coming.  I would like to try a P15 for sure and if they have them maybe the trident or big game.  I would like for my daughter to try the caper and the p13.  I am hoping to check out some doubles also, not that we will be testing them, the wife is very pregnant and there is no way I will get her in a boat.  see ya there.

See you there Carl.  Ocean Kayak should have all those models available for demo.

Nice to meet you and your family Carl.  Good luck with the upcoming purchases.

So there really wasn't much exciting going on at the symposium with regards to kayak fishing.  And the symposium was a little slow this year compared to past years.  To top it off I didn't get any fishing in although there were some silvers getting caught from shore at the point and some bait rolling just off from the beach setup.  I didn't get to PT until Saturday morning just as it was time to set up.  And I wasn't able to get up early on Sunday.   ::)  Oh well.  It was still a fun event, as usual.

Allen,

thank you for all the time and effort you put in with us, and for putting up with my "spirted" boys.  You were so right on, about that caper for my daughter she has not stopped talking about it yet.  It was great to meet you and have your input as we tried out the different boats.  Even my wife was excited about kayaks by the time we left.

thank you
Carl
