There's been some really spectacular fishing in NorCal these days since the white sea bass are in town. They used to be a real oddity in NorCal but thanks to El Nino they're becoming an annual run. They chase the squid wherever they go and recently that's North.

Anyway, there's some great fishermen at NCKA who take advantage of this run and pulled off some amazing catches. On to the fishporn.

Nice fish porn!!

Sure the 4 years I lived there (2004-2007) we had a La Niña.  WSB were unheard of, the halibut weren't to be found and even the salmon didn't cooperate.    I did get in some nice rockfish fishing and ab diving though.

It doesn't have anything to do with El Nino.  Something is going on that is bringing those WSB in.  The nearshore water has been colder than normal.  The offshore warm water currents have been non-existent.  There was one year in the late 90's that we had a good spot of them come in too.  But lately it has happened a lot more often.  We even had a good winter bite this year.  I think it has to do with the very much improved "ocean conditions" we've had the past 2-3 year.  The previous 3-4 year were bad ocean condition.  Bring the bait, and the WSB follow.  Hopefully the salmon can take advantage of this too, but as of yet, they haven't recovered from those bad years.

If I'm lucky I'll be able to get out after them this weekend.  But the full moon is waning, and I'll probably just miss the bite.

The pictured WSB are from Monterey Bay, some have caught Ghosts in the Bodega area as well - I don't know about anything further north, sorry to say!

Hmm, Where did you hear that? I've read a few articles which point to El Nino.

"National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration scientists are still watching to see whether there will be a full-blown El Niño this year, bringing tropical rain to the western United States from October to July.

In the meantime, fishermen are catching sardines - the sea lions' favorite food - as well as white sea bass and mackerel that have migrated in with the warmer water."

From being on the water.   :P  The nearshore temps have been downright frigid.  And we've had a very poor albacore season down here with the 60 degree water mostly sitting 90 miles offshore.

And I though they declared the supposed El Nino over and said a La Nina is starting up.

The pods of WSB are in the squid.  If you got some big squid balls up around Brooking right now, give it a shot.  Why not?

What do squid look like on the fishfinder?  Well, sort of like lightening bolts ... jagged diagonal lines.

I'd like to hit Brookings but all I have is the 14' pungo sink. I've made some fixes on it, like outriggers, bilge pump, new FF w/GPS. miniskirt to help keep water from dumping in. I know it is no good for surf launching and only good for launch ramps and that I got to take care what the weather is.
Waiting for my grandson to help me put on some pictures of it on the rigging site so you guys can tell me that I better make my WILL more current. ;D
Do you put the routing of the pictures in the attach box or do you use the insert Image icon. I've tried both and did a preview and don't see the pictures.  ???
Need a little help on the picture thing.  :-\
Also have to get the wife to up my allowance so I can get the OB.
