After two days of getting skunked on the Columbia (one of them being the 2010 Salmon Challenge) I decided to not take a chance on a third.  Instead, I crossed the bridge and headed west to Cape Disappointment, site of the Dungie Tournament and also a place I fished earlier this summer (see http://www.northwestkayakanglers.com/index.php/topic,4851.msg51155.html#msg51155 for area detail).

Cape Disappointment did not in fact, disappoint.  The conditions were good and I was able to fish off the ends of both jetties for a couple hours each.  Lings and Cabs off the west one, and large Blacks off the east one.  There was surf coming in to Waikiki beach and what's worse, it was full of people.  So the pressure was on for me to execute the beach landing without a huli.  I Nailed it and the crowd went wild!  :D

As a side note, I think this is one of my favorite places to fish.  NOT JUST because the fishable area is huge (provided the conditions are right) and it's incredibly scenic, but that place has serious amenities.  Nice parking lot, outside showers for rinsing gear, inside showers for rinsing my stanky body so I don't have to smell the man funk for 5 hours home, and some of the best wood-fired pizza I've ever had, for sale right there in the lot.  Waiting for me when I got out of the shower.  Yum. Cape Disappointment...you've won my heart!  I just wish I lived closer.

I made an action-packed video.  Took me a while to get this post arranged because I was trying to figure out Final Cut Express.  Believe me, there's nothing "express" about it.  Finally got it worked out tho.  This one has slightly higher production quality than the last ones, tho there is a bit of a backlighting issue in some places due to having my back to the sun.

Early in the morning!

One of my 20+ inch Rockfish.  Turned him into poop already.

This weekend - Neah Bay!  Going to be in a boat...but I'm going to be checking out the area for kayak launches and possible fishing areas.

Hey tallman spielburg,
that was an awesome video. Quality wise i would rate that as grand champion. best production i have seen on the site. nice job. Spent my whole lunch joining in on your adventure ..several times. Sometime if you could post a little instructional video of how you set up your camera. It looked like at one point you repositioned the camera  but you didn't have to lean way forward to do it. Have a blast at neah bay. you might just take 10 minutes while you are there to check out the hobuck beach area for future trips. it is just about 10 minutes from the marina. good luck and hook into some nice salmon. doug in sequim

Dude!  You've got it bad.....
Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.  --Mark Twain

Great video and nice looking fishies.  It appears that you drew some interest from the power boaters.
