JoeyC (from KFS) and I hit the best fishing spot on the east cost on Monday.    Montauk, long Island and had one of the best kayak fishing days ever!   We launched just before sunrise and within 30 minutes I was reeling in my 5th bass while Joey was hooked up with his first of 12 albies after a couple of bass.

For 4 hours in the morning it was albies,  bass and blues under working birds all within a mile or so from shore.

After we took a break in the afternoon,  I launched again at about 3PM while Joey had to head back home.  I started out the afternoon with a few bluefish before heading out deeper and landed 2 albies and then 5 bass all within a 40 minute span.

I soon saw the sky black with diving birds just off the beach and it was non stop action for the next 90 minutes with mostly blues and a few bass.   It was just cast into the birds and start reeling and I was tight whitin seconds.

I landed at about 5:30 with just enough strength left to carry the kayak and gear back up to the car.

Here are a few pictures.

Allen,  I think it's time for you to get on a plane!

Nice report!

I miss Montauk in the fall.  :'( I cut my saltwater teeth, fishing the south shore of LI from Pt. Lookout to the Forks.

Sounds like you had an awesome day on the water.  I used to love chasing Albies. With light gear they put up one hell of a fight.

WOW,  more insane action this past weekend.  I headed out to Montauk on the 10th and 11th and landed at least 50 stripers in the two days I was out there.  There were times that I just back in my kayak and watched thousands of stripers up to 38" just crashing into the side of the kayak.

Here is a picture of what was around us for several hours each day.

Here is the average size fish that we caught for the two days.

It's blowing at about 30-40 mph this weekend,   but it looks good for one more trip on Wednesday.

:o   Wow.  That is simply amazing!  I wish we had boils of stripers like that here in the PNW.

I made another trip to Montauk yesterday (300 mile round trip)  and the conditions were perfect.  The morning action was OK,  but not great, but I did land my first ever bonito.  I released mine but then JonS  landed another one that he kept.  He made a quick trip to town during our lunch break and picked up some wasabi and soy sauce.

Here are the guys preparing the fish for a great treat during lunch.

The afternoon startedout slow and then at about 4 PM until dark, it was just blitz after blitz with stripers in the 30-34 inch range.

I am not sure if I will get another chance to head out there,  but the bass action is starting to get really good on the Jersey shore which is only an hour away.

Boogie D....there is nothing big enough in shore to use the albies for bait.  Maybe a couple hour boat ride.

You guys are killing me.  Nothing compares to fishing for blues, stripers, and bonita in Long Island Sound.  Wish I was there.

Danny,
What do you have rigged to the side of you yak with the metal tubing. Looks like you don't always run with it on... Curiosity has got me scratching my head here....

For your next trick you gotta land a double and get it on video. Would love to be out there with you guys!
