There is a kayak I have been looking at, it is a brand new "demo". What exactly does demo mean? Is that code speak for it's a factory second? help appreciated.

Does it have a major patch where a hole was punched in it at the factory?

Not that I can see from the pics. The top & bottom look clean and unscratched.

That could mean a couple of things so it really depends on who's selling as a "demo"

It could be a "blem" where it was damaged during shipping or it didn't   quite come out as perfect when it was being made in the factory.  The   problem here usually is cosmetic and the boat can still do what it's   supposed to do.

It could also be a boat that was recently a part of a shop's demo   fleet.  Here, the term "brand new demo" is obviously a contradiction in   terms, but they probably just mean that it is just now up for sale after   being used in a bumper boats club.

I would get them to define what they mean by "demo".  If it's a blem, just make sure you give it a good look over before pulling the trigger.

I called the retailer. He says it's brand new, 1st quality. He says the Mfr. won't let them discount prices w/out throwing that label on it. Thanks for the input Spot and Yaknitup.

yeah we do the same thing. mostly what it means is the retailer gets a little discount on the wholesale price because the boat will eventually be sold out of livery for less than the retail boat.

Usually worth the discount.
