Back in july I lost my beloved 20 year old Lamiglas 1314t "Kenai Special" in a ugly huli on Lincoln Beach. I loved it so much I had purchased a spare when Joe's was circling the drain. Upon first day fishing I was trying to bounce a snag loose and my new one broke right at the ferrule. I mailed it back to Lami warranty Dept. w/the $15 for shipping on July 30.

My new one finally came on Friday, as the rep Kara informed me they were out of stock. Now the blanks are red color and they've been re-designed with 13 guides on the top half of the rod.

They look like my Grandpa's old Berkley Cherrywood trout rod.

Are all 1000 series blanks going to this red color? Is this graphite quality as good as the old ones? What's the deal with all these extra guides?  I've never seen any red ones at Fisherman's or Englund.

Oh jeez---I've got a Kenai King that needs a top guide, hope they can just put a new one on and not change anything...

Yep, afraid so.  The 1000 series (and possibly others) are now "cranberry" colored.  If you break the rod and need to replace it, the replacement will be that color.  You're lucky, some folks getting their warranty rod had to pay 60-70$ to get the newer model when they took the older one in for warranty - BUT the guy I got that from was a frequent warranty user so they're probably on to his game - he breaks a pole once or twice every year with his 'hooksets'

Thanks Lee!

Hey Kalli - Your local fishing specialty store should offer repair service. I walked in w/a guy at Fisherman's and we were talking story in the checkout line. They fixed his rod while he waited, and it wasn't his first rod that they had repaired. He was very happy w/previous repairs. It is most likely more economical and surely quicker than a Mfr./warranty repair and probably the same quality epoxy.

Still kind of wondering about all the extra guides?

"Extra" guides are good. They keep the line from rubbing on the blank or thread that attaches the guides. With a lot of folks using braided lines now the line needs to be kept away from the thread so it doesn't cut through. The quality of the graphite and resins today are far better than they were a few years ago.
