Planning on fishing your backyard?

Prolly.  It's the only hole I know.  And plenty of space there too  - unless the occasional waft of Johnny Walker or din of Kenny Chesney is offensive.

Do you guys mind if I join you.  Since the fish I will be catching will be too large to legally lift out of the water I will need someone to photograph them for me.  Both my hands will be too busy holding the fish and tape measure.  8)  Also, its close enough to home that I may have time to run and grab my oldest boy before I head downtown to pick up my trophy.  ;)

I'd encourage everybody fishing this tournament to find a partner.  Even just taking a skull measurement will be a chore on a big fish.  Better to be safe and have a buddy along.

I've got mine and I'm looking forward to raising a post session glass of Glenlivet riverside to toast our enormous 1st and 2nd place fish.   >:D

Its the final stretch for this saturdays Next Adventure Sturgeon Fishing Tournament. If cold weather was a concern for you participating, don't let it. It should be wet this weekend, but the temps are forecasted to be in the upper 50's. That's over 20 degrees warmer then the two weeks prior in PDX. Cant beat that for January!
Also, if you need someone to fish with, some of us are heading out in small groups. Let us know if you want to join.  This would help you in CPR(catch, photo, release) if you have some else near by. There will be a couple small groups on the Columbia, so if your joining us from WA, you can launch right across the river from us and not have to buy an Oregon License.
Fish on!

Half the fun of the tournaments and meet-ups is looking out over the water and seeing a flotilla of NWKA bros (and sis's?) fishing hard.  And while I did manage to find a partner (had to pay for one on craigslist under "kayak sturgeon fishing partner/photographer for hire",)  I will always welcome the site of another kayak fisherman.  Like the old saying says:  "bros before dinos"
...as soon as the Advil kicks in...

Buddy system is always a good idea, especially when it comes to anchoring in decent current.  The Willamette is on the rise and water levels/current are forecasted to be higher than normal come Saturday.  Be careful and keep a knife handy.

Guys the tourney is tomorrow and it looks like we will have pretty good conditions.  The weather is supposed to be in the 50’s and rainy, and the Willamette looks like it will be OK with predicted river stages in Portland of between 7 ft and 8 ft and 15 ft up to 18 ft at Oregon city.
Pelagic paddler brought up some good points and I really recommend fishing with a buddy and keeping a knife handy.  Also, if someone wants to borrow a VHF radio or possibly a dry suit drop me a line and I will see what I can do.

Good luck to all participants. Wish i could make it. It warmed up nicely for the tourny, it's downright balmy here right now.

Me and possibly Yaksurf might be targeting Dinos down here on Saturday. Anyone else is welcome to join us as well as long as you have the capability to anchor and release, the fish here are mostly oversized.

Nanook, sorry to hear you can't make it, I hope you feel better.

Everyone has checked in so I will not be doing a formal check in tomorrow morning.  If anyone wants to fish who hasn't signed up send me a PM by 7:30 and I will meet you at the shop.
Good luck everyone,  and be safe.

I think someone forgot their identifier.  If it's you, let me know and I will meet you on the water.

You know man, it's compulsary to whip it out and lay it on the table for a full measure of length and width once in a while if you're to be taken seriously on a kayak FISHING site.  Now, blow your nose and step up.   >:D
