I want to come. When are you thinking of doing this?

- Matt

I plan on hitting the Snohomish this week so if anybody is interested it would be fun to fish with someone.

What can I say, solid performance!
I'm down for hitting this up. When were you thinking of going?

It sounds like Saturday works best for Zee and T.  I'm hoping to go at least one other time, hopefully twice, before the weekend.

Let's be in touch as the week progresses.

If anyone can fish during the week that would be best, since these spots are small and it would be nice to avoid the weekend crowds.

Thank you again Allen for everything you are doing with the forum and kayak fishing.

-Jesse

If anyone can find any Dick Nites (chrome with Chartruse tip), buy some...I checked three stores today and they were all out.  I hope I can secure some by Wednesday.

Espiga,

I think I'm ready to risk my job and go out there on Wed.  Actually it's because Wed has the sunshine.  If Zee will do it, I will too.  Dad gum it all, I SHOULD have done it Sunday like I mused about when we talked on Sat.  Is that the place that's just off of Short School road?

Probably we should start a new thread for this one.  Go ahead and I'll follow your lead.

Hey, have you tried Ted's on Hwy 99 for those Dick Nites?  I've got about 6 of the 50/50 chrome-brass if that helps.

Matt,

Sorry, I thought that was Zee's post before.  Let me make a small correction: "I'll go if Matt will go".  Hey Zee, hopefully you can come along too.

Yeah, it'd have to be way early for me too.  First light and all that.

First light, or before.  I seemed to slow down substantially later in the morning and early afternoon.

Wednesday would be great!  You're correct on the location.

This morning I found a tutorial on using Dick Nites on SteelheadUniversity.com
We didn't use either the slider or three way swivel setup, instead we simply tied the dropper line to the swivel.  The leader and dropper needed to be un-twisted quite a bit.  I bought some small three-way swivels today that I see if it reduces twisting.  I might also try the slider setup shown.

I also have some of the 50/50s and a few other patterns, but it sure seemed like they liked that chrome/chartruse combo.  We'll make the best of it I'm sure.   ;D

Sweet!  Let's go fishing!

Espiga,

I haven't seen the S.U. tutorial, but that sounds like how I rigged mine on Sat.  I used the 3-way slider and I had nearly no leader twist at all.  I can't get by Ted's this week cause I'll have to work all that I can to make up for... well, for Wed morning.

So, are you bringing your spiffy new Trident or what?

I'll probably use my P15 until I rig it up a little...for what we're going to do an anchor trolley system is essential.  I'm thinking about trying to locate some small blocks to help the travel of the trolley.  I also think it will help to have a rudder.

I will paint some if necessary.  Thanks.

Espiga,

Okay, if I understand where this is... will you have a key to let us in?  If not, I think we can launch about 200 yds upstream and drift down to your spot.  The thing that I don't know is how tough would it be to paddle back up when we're done.

I have the anchor system rigged, but it only extends from the middle of my yak to the stern, so I'll be facing nose downstream.  Will that work okay?  And what's up with the need for an anchor?  Is that really that important?

Glad everyone's down to do this. I'm for sure down but only can make it on Sat morning. Wish I could be there during the week but work calls. I'll be fly fishing again w/ some small shiny flash flies... just can't give up >:D. Espiga, how deep were you getting your fish? Also how fast was the water flowing? Just wanted to know because if I can get away w/o using my anchor I'd like to. Might use the Mirage drive to keep me in place. Ready to get this skunk offa' me!!

I do not have a key, and I checked out the launch up the road a bit (the same one you're thinking of) and launch.  The current varies tremendously.  We were able to get around fine in a row boat, so being able to move around shouldn't be a problem.

I plan on running my anchor of the stern as well.  The channel we were fishing is was pretty narrow.  There was a wider, slower moving, shallower channel on the other side of a small island.  The current varies a lot by location and with the tides.  It would be real tough to fish the way we were drifting or trying to maintain position.  I have never used a peddle drive, but it seems that the current would be pushing the boat around up and downstream as well as side to side.

The bite is so subtle, same intensity but different feel as the weight bouncing off the bottom.  Unless I was right there to set the hook it was rare to hook up.  The fish are hitting a tiny lure as they are charging up stream.  They were not setting the hook themselves by hitting and running against the line.  We were fishing the high current area, otherwise we weren't getting a nice enough drift; the current is providing the action on the lure.

I'm sure there are all sorts of possibilities to approach things, but I'm interested in perfecting the techniques I was using on my kayak first before i get more creative.  There are a lot of snag possibilities so it would also be difficult to fish and fight a fish while drifting down stream.  The fish often ran hard up stream initially, before running down stream.

As for fly fishing, I don't know how anything works, so hope the above description helps.

Thanks for the advice Espiga. I think I can rig something that will work but obviously getting the anchor system set is gonna be important. I better break it out of storage.

Espiga, Matt,

Whooops!  Sorry guys.  I probably spoke too soon.  Yeah, I was willing to "risk my job" for this one... but it turns out that I'm not quite willing to outright bend over and kiss it goodbye!

Yeah, I better re-calibrate for a Sat morning launch with Zee.  I still think I might try a week day next week though.  A little more lead time might make all the difference in my case.  You two guys go out there and knock 'em dead.  With a "bonker" stick I mean.
