I believe that most of the OK scupper mounts are actually in the foremost tankwell scupper, not the forward footwell scupper hole.  Maybe they've changed it in the newer models?

Just doesn't make sense to me to install the transducer there....

Why not?   It's in front of the foot pedal, so protected from your feet, and fish aren't going to hurt the cable, and it's forward of your paddle stroke which can interfere with your results as well.  Are you thinking it should be in the back of the boat like a power boat?  It's only on the back of power boats because it's easy to do an in the water install there.

No. I'm saying I think I'd rather install a "shoot-through" just behind below where the FF is mounted inside the hull. There it would be out of sight and interference of anything and everything. Not that the factory location is that bad. Its just one more thing to get snagged on kicked, stepped on, tripped over, or generally damaged. Then again the trade off is- as pointed out- there could be some variance in the temperature readings.

ok after thinking it over, and doing a little searching i found something better that answers the concerns of installing the scupper hole transducer on a Trident.

again, you just gotta be a bit more carreful about handling/dropping your yak.

I bought a humminbird 345c, two weeks ago and also bought this mounting kit   http://store.humminbird.com/products/305932?product_id=f2d37826cd6ada4370cac4337f6d8ce6   I didn't want it to get in the way of my rod pod storage, so i mounted it right behind the through hull spot. Problem was, when i went on my test run no fish showed up in 5hrs:( i read the book and it said it was a result of not having it level, or a air pocket. so if you mount it right behind the molded spot it wont work, its at like a 35deg angle. lesson learned :banjo:

I have a T13 in which I installed the scupper transducer mount.  No problems getting anything snagged on it, no problems kicking it with my feet.  I liked that installation much better than the through-the-hull I now use on my Revo.  Having the transducer directly in the water gave me a good view down to the bottom of Puget Sound, 800' off Richmond beach.  The through-the-hull mount on the Revo starts to degrade around 500'.  Luckily I'm not bottom fishing at 500'.

Check out my T13 rigging experiences at the bottom of the page, http://www.demonick.com/kayak/

The foam puck is working well in my Revo.  I chose to fill the reservoir with marine grease rather than water.  It is trickier get it right initially, but you never have to fill the reservoir.  It worked well both ways, with water and with grease.  I'd start with water.  Make sure you cut the foam puck smaller than the transducer.

Two main reasons I did not mount my Cuda ducer in the factory designed location for the Humminbird was the fact that it would cost me more for the correct ducer to fit there, and when punching through the surf you want those scuppers as clear as possible to drain fast!!!

Just goop down a foam puck, add water, press in the ducer and go fishing.   Eventually the water will get close in temperature to the surface water temps.

i mounted mine inside the hull, but during my install it says in the humminbird installation guide 3rd paragrah

" NOTE: If the included transducer will not work for your application, you may exchange it, NEW and UNASSEMBLED, with mounting hardware included, for a transducer appropriate for your application-often at very little or no charge dependeing on the trasducer. Call the Humminbird Customer Resource Center at 1-800-633-1468 for details and pricing, or visit www.humminbird.com"

I like the transducer in the hull, but courious what the cost would have been if any to get the through hull transducer (with threads)??

Proper bronze thru hull transducers are very spendy, and way overkill.  Your transducer will work just fine, easiest mount is make a foot long rope of plumber's putty, place your ducer where you want, and make a "dam" of putty that will hold the transducer down. May not even need water if the bottom of the ducer is in contact with the hull:

This was my first mount, a little Lowrance finder, I used Goop surrounded by putty.  Now I just use the putty, it works fine, is not at all permanent If the signal seems weak, leave a little space around the transducer and pour in a thimbleful of seawater, then push the putty around and over to seal everything.

FJ- You're still out the funds for shipping the transducer back and forth and the the time it takes.  IMHO, that's a load of crap to have to deal with...  ::)  FWIW though, I believe it is an even swap to get the scupper transducer if you own an OK and provide the hull id number when you call them.

Love the plumber's putty idea.  That's going to get a call to duty when traveling.  I don't so much like the suction cup mount.

like the plumbers putty idea that's the one i will most likely end up going with i like it because that way you don't have to add water every time  ;)

I got a new Lowrance combo FF/GPS to go on the new Adventure, used it yesterday and PNP, used the putty dam, it did need some water to get a strong signal.  Had a near-tragedy at the Point, will post later today.

Best bet by far is to have the transducer in the water.  Next best bet is the foam puck option.  Once you add water to the puck to cover the transducer you'll have no chance of air bubbles below the transducer. (As long as the puck doesn't leak)
I've done the "Glueing down the ducer) and it didn't last long!.  If you like to do things over and over again, then by all means don't listen to those that have "Been there done that"
For long term use of your fish finder, there are really only 2 options.
