Hey everybody i was just wondering if humminbird transducers will work through the hull of a kayak thanks for your answers.

Mine works great.  If you look through "drilling and cutting" you'll find several methods for installation.

I used something like this

It's ok if it SETS fast, but make sure that it is not a fast cure.  It needs to be slow cure (at least 24 hours and it will tell you on the package) and you have to make sure you don't have any bubbles in it.

other common methods include 'foam puck' and 'goop' installs

I'd recommend going with the "foam puck and water" option.  Its simple, clean, removable and does no harm to your transducer. A couple bubbles in your goop or epoxy and you have a messy and potentially costly redo.  With the foam puck all you have to do is top it off with water, push the transducer down into the water filled puck and your golden.   I went from a gooped down transducer to a foam and water puck and have never looked back.  I would however recommend marine goop to stick the puck down.

Ok thanks i will do that once a get it so from what i understand about the puck and water is you get the puck make a depression in it for the transducer and then fill the depression with water? or am i miss understanding something?

You make a hole in the foam.  Transducer makes contact with the hull, and you fill in the gaps with water so there is no air between transducer and hull.  Check this thread:  http://www.northwestkayakanglers.com/index.php/topic,4506.0.html

is there any other way of mounting the transducer? this way just seems kinda haphazardly to me.

Perhaps a scupper hole mount like on a Trident that is made for it, would be preferred over the shoot-through? I can't say I have experienced either way yet, but have the same question.

These are the common methods:

Foam puck
Goop
Epoxy
Transducer arm, where you make an arm that hangs over the side of the yak and puts the transducer in the water
Scupper mount (generally only works with trident kayak and special transducer)

These aren't really haphazard, they are tried and true methods for installing an electronic device to a piece of floating tupperware.

I have been using the over the side method with transducer directly in the water. Works well and you get a true temp reading.

I am however, switching to the shoot thru method, had more then a few close calls on getting a Salmon tangled in the arm. Decide i want to keep the deck with less stuff to snag on.

The thing I noticed about the Trident scupper mount is how exposed it is going through the hole right where your feet are. Seems like it could get damaged to me. I'm thinking of using your foam puck and water method anyway, as it would be all inside and tucked away.

I have been searching online and have found different transducers and mounts for the Humminbird. I dont think you could get away with using a "transom mount" style as a "shoot through".

I believe you can shoot through with a transom mount 'ducer. The  flat bottom ducers like my new hummingbird have are nice though.

I believe that most of the OK scupper mounts are actually in the foremost tankwell scupper, not the forward footwell scupper hole.  Maybe they've changed it in the newer models?

I'd say 90% of us here are using transom mount transducers in a shoot through configuration.  Most of us put function and expense over form.  Transom mounts are pretty much the standard transducer you receive when purchasing a sounder.  Rather than shelling out another $60-100, we have found ways to make do with what came in the box and scraps most of us have laying around our garages with great effect.  You lose the water temp feature, but everything else works great.

You don't actually lose the temp do you? just off by a few degrees, you can figure out the offset by sticking the 'ducer in the water and then put in the hull at the same water conditions. Then you'll know how many degrees to subtract(should read a bit warm i would guess).
