So Saturday is my birthday and I thought I'd head to the coast. If Poseidon deems me worthy, I'd like to head out to the salt for a ling dinner. If not, a paddle from the Nestucca estuary up to the lower take out and then drift back down river is in order. The drift boats don't cover this water and I've only seen an occasional power boat either. It is a nice, easy and quiet paddle with a good chance of finding some steel.

The weather and tides will dictate location and timing but I'm getting out for a paddle. Anyone interested?

Saturday is my birthday too...   I'll also be at the coast.  If the river conditions continue to cooperate aka no big rains I'll be catching some steelhead too.  If the ocean was decent that would be the best gift I could ask for.

Right now the forecast looks great midweek.  >:(  It may hold for an early Saturday morning in the salt. Time to sit and watch.

Wednesday has a nice looking ocean forecast.  I'm really tempted to cancel work and go, but the "responsible" part of my brain keeps saying there will be more nice days soon enough, patience grasshopper..    It looks fairly sloppy by Saturday :'(

Typical winter forecasts, ever changing, I looked at Sunset the last two 5ft swell mornings and it was a rough 5ft, lots of cross chop.
Swell looks good here for Saturday morning but the wind will probably screw it up.
See ya on the water..

I'd personally save that for a few weeks from now, don't want to burn out before the show really starts..  There are a few fish around, but nothing like what will be happening in a few short weeks.  Its a nice paddle for sure but the catching might be on the seriously slow side.  Water temp has been at 43-45 for the last week or so which doesn't help the bite, this rain should knock it up a deg or two and get them a little more aggressive.

Its prime time for coastal steelhead, yak or otherwise..

You never know, they might just open Sturgeon to retention in the next few days ;)

Jay last time I was there I noted a no fishing zone or something similar on the nestucca below the public boat launch...straub is it?

Might want to check it out before you drop a line.

I'd be going upriver from there, as far as the takeout in Cloverdale.

That only applied to fall chinook last year but the majority of the fish are above Cloverdale now anyway.
