Hello NWKA from NCKA... :hello:

We have taken on the getting the Heroes on the water program here in California...

I'm sure most of you have heard what this program is; Basically, getting wounded troops coming home or injured active duty at home, out on kayaks, fishing...

I've worked pretty hard at getting contacts to get to wounded vets and one of those,

the Warrior Transition Unit in Sacramento, has active duty wounded troops in Oregon and Washington.

I currently have a wounded soldier in the Portland area and a few more down by the Grants Pass area, that would like to get out and go kayakfishing.

Being you guys don't have a chapter, this would be more of just getting a few of you guys together and going fishing like a normal hook up.

I will check with National HOW ( Heroes on the Water ) to see if we could register this " outing " with California how as to have liability coverage,  but there it all starts with the complexities....  ::)

I'm just checking to see if there is any interest or availability of any of ya all to help get these brave Men and Women out and into our world...

If you go to the HOW website, and read some of the testimonials of what this program has done for some of these brave folks...

you guys will be in with Bells on!!!

here is a article written by our own Paul Leowitz...

http://www.kayakanglermag.com/component/content/article/632-heroes-on-the-water-comes-to-california.html

and here is a presentation video that starts with our troops in the Bad Lands and then tells of the program...

here is my e-mail as I'm right in the middle of planning an event right now and may miss coming back here...

 elsob@sbcglobal.net

If your interested in starting a chapter that's great, but I will say, it does take a great deal of time, tenacity and DELEGATION, all volunteer... but,it's very rewarding and a Great thing to do, and there is a desperate need...

a pic at our last event that kinda says it all....

Thanks

I've just heard from Jim Dolan,

National Director of HOW in Texas,

it appears a couple of people have already stepped up to start a chapter in the Portland area. Not sure who they are and could only imagine they are connected with this site...

they are going to need it!!!

There should be more info about your chapter by the end of the month...

Looking forward to helping you all in anyway ,,,

WR and myself have both attempted to get things going here in the Puget Sound area.  There hasn't been much interest though.  I'm hoping that last summer's cooler than normal temperatures played into it.  It's also entirely possible that the word is just not reaching the troops at the WTB here.

Hi Lee,

are you just trying to do this informal or have you taken over the lead from Brain?

I have contacts up in WA through the WTU...

and if your interested in starting a chapter in WA, I can get you in touch with Jim Dolan or you can just go to the Heroes on the water web site and express interest.

 http://heroesonthewater.org/home

It's a bit of paperwork and organization, but it also gives you some 501c3 power to get things you will need to have for events....

feel free to contact me elsob@sbcglobal.net
