have you ever posted up or replied to a post to"meet-up" for a fishing trip not knowing who you might encounter? is this person going to prepared for an emergency situation? are they going to have their ppe's in order? have you ever had to say "sorry dude, its not happening today".
i felt like i was in that position last weekend. not knowing who i was going out in the ocean with it started to freak me out. fortunately i got lucky, the guy i was meeting turned out to be more than competent and a hell of a fisherman (thanks fungunnin)
ultimately we are responsible for our own safety, but think about the person you are fishing with. dont make them responsible for you as well.
we are getting started on the 2011 bottom fishing season and i just wanted to put the reminder out there
hope to see you on the water

Yes...  This is also a concern of mine.  For the most part I only give a heads up for a meet up when the conditions are super cake. And then only for PC, as its the safest surf launch on the north coast,  plus there are lots of people/dorys there and help/rescue is reasonably close  Now, more often than not, I just touch bases with guys I have fished with before via PM's and spread the word that way.

I also have personally limited posting too many salt success reports.  IMO  "super fish porn great ocean" glam posts seem to get folks excited and in a rush to get out and fish the salt, maybe before they are ready...    What prompted this was last year at PC I met a guy launching who said "hey are you PP? was reading NWKA , saw your (and others) pic's of PC fish and saw you guys having some great success, I thought I'd give it a shot"  He wasn't "unsafe" (maybe by he who shall not be named standards ;D) he had a lifejacket, a shortie wetsuit, etc..  He had never surf launched or even fished from a yak EVER!  After a few bobbles in the surf he was out and for all I know had a great day, but it gave me pause.  I fish a lot of other launches  on the north coast that are more challenging than PC and I don't post reports or meet up for these place for several reasons, one being someone without decent salt experience could get into trouble with no one to help.
Are reports and meet ups bad?  No Way!  Keep em' Coming! Its a great way to get the word out and help folks gain experience.  My hope is new folks pay as much attention to the hows and whys of safety and gear selection posts as they do to fish porn on the sand shots.

would any of you that are seasoned in surf launching / ocean fishing, like to get together with a few of us that aren't so experienced we could meet-up and spend a day of teaching / learning together!
I would love to atend something like this and would do it at the drop of a hat (I'm in the not so experienced category).
Spending a day with you guys and learning from the best would be priceless and worth every minute!!

Any takers experienced / inexperienced? ;D

I once launched a PC when the waves were 1'ers...   I would love to meet up when I can..
A question for Hobie adventure owners:  The adventure or my antique outback?  The outback has less rudder.. Seems like pedal power got me thru the fun zone quick.
Should I put 4 eyes to lash my rod against the hull for a surf launch?

Thanks  ???

I'd be game for something like that this summer if we can find a good weekend to do it.  I'm thinking maybe a 3'ish day - challenging, but not too bad.

Many people (including myself) don't mind going out with newbies.  Just be honest about your abilities so we know what to expect.

Allen I think you hit it right on the head! You gotta be humble in the salt. I have no problem going out with new guys off the beach. Just let me know if I need to be watching and coaching. Be ready to get wet and be able to secure all our gear. Expect that your first surf landing wont be pretty. Rolling in medium surf is not really dangerous since you can usually just walk in .

That would be great, I for one would love to get some help with with making my first surf launch, and anyway a bunch of newbies doing surf launches, you know would make for a great Youtube video.

If it wasn't for flashbacks, I'd have no memories at all.
