I'm trying to set up my fishing calendar for the year and others have mentioned their interest.  So I've copied last years events into this thread and maybe we can have some discussions on what worked, what didn't, which should be at a different time, and others that we haven't yet considered.  I think it would be fun to have monthly fish-a-longs, even if it's not a derby, similar to the Sunset Bay get together last 4th of July.

I'm also in favor of adding one of the following: a Halibut, Mackinaw, or Kokanee tourney to the mix.

2011
June
The Oregon Rockfish Classic Depoe Bay, OR; Saturday June 18

Personally, I thought this went exceptionally well last year and it seemed everyone had a great time.  The locals were happy to see us sporting flags on our boats and I never heard one complaint after the event.  We're actually becoming accepted there and I've already been asked by a number of entities if we plan to do it again.  I'll be more than happy to host a "pre-fish" get-together like I did last year for those that desire to get familiar with the area/ocean.

July
The Cape Disappointment Dungie Tournament & Crab feast

Thoughts from those who attended?

Sunset Bay AOTD Tourny, Saturday July 16th

August
The NWKA Fall Salmon Challenge Youngs Bay, OR

Thoughts from those who attended?

September
Siltcoos/Takenich, OR Coho Derby

Thoughts from those who like this possibility?
Since I already know that most mid coast (OR) rivers will be open for coho the Siletz, Yaquina, Alsea, Siuslaw, Umpqua, Coos, and Coquille could be considered as well as Ten Mile Lakes.

Can't believe it's almost April already!

The Sunset Bay AOTD Tourny will be on Saturday July 16th. Hope to get some more people this year and hope the conditions cooperate better. Will have a back up plan.

The ORC was fun even though it was a quickie for me. Plan to make it a trip this year. Liked the camp spot.

the fall Salmon challenge needs to NOT launch at Youngs Bay. Launch at the beach or boat ramp at skipinon and i'll go again.

Not sure about more tournies, maybe like FS said just small get togethers would be good like for Halibut in early May out of bobs wayside or Depoe Bay.
See ya on the water..

Thanks Roy,

Where's Bob's Wayside?  I was thinking by the railroad tracks heading out of Coos Bay (for Cali-buts).

Got Sunset on my calendar.  Now just need a place to park the truck and pitch the tent.  I'll see about rounding up some door prizes as we move closer to the date.

Bob's is just north of Florence. I was thinking Pac buts but i wouldn't mind trying to figure out the cali buts here also.

Got the spot for you and anyone else that wants to park and pitch at my place.
