I think I am addicted to springer fishing.  I spent 6 days, three in less than a week, trolling around the Willamette looking for fish without a single hit, yet I still skipped out on other responsibilities to try my luck again.  And you know what the lack of clean clothes, pile of dirty dishes and the ever so slightly still loving wife are all worth it.  Why, because today I finally hooked up with my first nook.   When she hit it felt like I snagged a log, and except for a few head shakes she didn't put up much fight, until she saw the yak.  Four long runs later and I had a 35 inch salmon in the boat.  Other folks and the sea lion were having luck too, I even saw 2 guys land fish from the shore.
I am heading out to try my luck on some new water closer to Portland on Thursday morning if anyone is interested in joining me.

I hate you!!!
Jealousy is a terrible thing....  :-\

That's one sweet fish nate!  Way to score!!  I'm sure you're wife will forgive you after tasting that fish.

Even though I haven't brought home the bacon yet this year I'm extremely pleased to see so many local yakkers getting springers.

Keep the fish porn coming!

I'll bet that was the best time you ever had fishing. It was for me last fall on the Siuslaw. Congrats on a beauty of a Chinook!

SWEET-O!!

Nice fish. Perseverance pays off.  When we fish Kings on the Kenai and it gets slow, our boat always sings the chorus line to the "YES" song..."It can happen to you, it can happen to me, it can happen to everyone EVENTUALLY!!" lol.  A strike is inevitable a few moments later...usually.

My favorite saying in fishing is "Perseverance Pays!!!"  Good job!

Soon...here, very soon...ARGH! NOT SOON ENOUGH!

Thanks guys, I got there a bit before noon today but didn't get this girl until 3ish.  When things are slow my secret is to stop paying attention and do something else.  In this case I took a break to try for a sturgeon, and hooked a stick.   After that I re-rigged for salmon and headed upstream.  I got him while on my way to a new spot, I have no clue at what depth or what speed.

If you're going to fish on Saturday I'd be up for joining you! I'm in Wilsonville and plan on going fishing (anywhere) this saturday. I haven't been this year and I'm going out even if I gotta go fish a mud puddle!

Sweet fish!

Set sounds like mine, relaxing (air drumming in my case) heading to a spot then the log snag...

Congrats on the springer.
