Maybe.  But really, "search" is like a handy neighbor who's somewhat boring.  "Conversation" is more like a friend.  And "sarcasm" is kinda like an annoying cousin.

Hmm, for some reason when I hi the "new" button it skipped over your earlier posts.

2.58 miles should be an easy cruise (with the tide) on a mellow day.

Have you thought about the marine camps that Nanook used off the SW side of Orcas? I think I recall he was planning some trips up there, this spring. Actually, Orcas is a decent base because there is some sort of water access on every side. However, it is a long haul from one end to the other.

I've never fished it, but Bowman Bay looks pretty fishy with good beach launch access from the park.  Anyone fished Bowman for lings?

Sure have!  For kayak fisherman it's hard to beat. Head straight off the rosario beach to the other side of the small island and drop some lead.  You can also fish the west side of deception island which is about a mile from the beach, or head north along fidalgo head and fish the cliffs all the way up to biz pt. Lots of territory up that way. Currents along fidalgo can make it unfishable so you have to time the tides right. Its also just a really nice place to kayak.

I heard that is the tide starts ripping and wind starts blowing you can have your hands full in no time...... It is a good idea to leash your gear or make sure it floats if you drive one of the boats with out paddles.

BTW ... the printed regs are available as of yesterday

Haha, but the water is oh so refreshing!

FG is quite politely referring to the time I went for a dip out there by Deception Island.  I think the moral of that story is: don't go fishing when the forecast calls for 30mph winds. Which was of course, FG's idea :D

Hey that was a great day! We caught fish, got a crazy good work out, proved your self rescue skills are top notch! Fun times all the way around. BTW a hobie is a much better craft for blasting into a huge head wind, and no it doesn't get better just around the corner.

Rav and I pulled that same stupid move when the wind was 30+ and the temps were hovering around 30-35.  It sure makes for a hell of a workout.

Are there a couple more protected spots to try for lings where you still have a halfway reasonable chance of hooking up?

Sounds like another good option NMIF.  And the weather is shaping up too.  Good luck.

Damn .... that sounds like a recipe for a rather difficult time retying.

Do Lings tend to bite at particular tidal conditions?

They prefer when the tide is moving from my somewhat limited experience.  Lings prefer to sit and wait for the food to flow past their holes vice swimming around and hunting it down.  Having said that, as long as you are jigging the right holes the tide shouldn't matter too much.
