Wasn't my fish or from a kayak, but a damn nice triploid all the same. I managed to put a good friend of mines son on a 25" 7lb bow at McChord AFB's annual kids fishing derby. Got him on an 1/8oz gold Kastmaster spoon.

Good for you rav. That rainbows is bloody beautiful. Literally! Nice job helping young kids get into fish. You can bet that kid will be talking about it for weeks. Great report

Yeah he's hooked!! he's all excited to go out on the yaks now. My daughter has some serious competition from this one. That was 6lb braid with a 4lb leader too. He did a hell of a job fighting it with a little coaching. Took about 5 min before we could finally put it in the net.

The look on that kid's face says it all. It's a PIG!! Good for you Rav. He now has 1/2 the cure. For the other 1/2 you'll need to get him a yak.

I gave Spotty my extra Kastmaster for his son, and they landed a 9 pounder yesterday!! they dropped some goliaths in there this year.

Looking at the photo a little closer, the adipose fin is not clipped. Its not a planter.

They don't clip fins on planter trout, at least not that I know of. That is most defiantly a planted trout. You can tell but the unnatural body shape (fat pig) and the rounded corners of the tail from grinding it against the pen walls.

Not only are planter trout not clipped (and this is definitely a planter), but some steelhead and salmon are not clipped. It depedns on the goals of the agency raising and releasing the fish.

Some of the Native American groups don't clip- if I remember, the Queets don't for any of their fish.

Some of the fed and state produced fish aren't clipped because they come from wild stock or a wild stockX. Since they're running a generation through the hatchery system in hopes of boosting the wild counts and are that they will come back and reproduce, the 1 time fish are unclipped so they aren't harvested.
