Correct ....
I would also stipulate that as a private boat owner you can deter a seal or sealion that you think may try to damage your kayak.
Rubber bullets are allowable too .... I would laminate this and keep a copy with you if you do choose to use any of these methods.

Very cool but I would think I would see more boats with paintball guns going nuts on the Willamette. Good reason to hold onto the old paintball gun :)

I think people are a bit hesitant to shoot at seals and sealions due to the possible public image. I image if you start popping off shots at "protected" marine mammals you might get more than one dirty look.

Especially in downtown Portland!

Make sure you let a good solid St. Helens YEEEEEEHAAAAWW as you are dumping rounds at the fur bags just really make the Portlandia jaws hit the ground.
Study the film and maybe Andy will share some sweet camping spots with you too!

Clowns like that shoot back and are way scarier than sea lions. It makes me want to move to Canada.

Yeah meese are not to be trusted. Many years ago I got attacked by one when I guess paddled a little too close to it's nest. It was actually right in front of a retirement home with big windows looking out on the water. After I beat the beast back with my paddle I turned to see many shocked old folks looking on...

Where I used to fish south of here, the sea lions learned how to come up underneath kayaks, head butt them and flip it over. Kayak fishermen have had great success fishing in this area and the "sea dogs" have learned that following a kayak trolling a live mackerel is an easy snack. Get hooked up and the sea lions come running.

Video of a sea lion eating a large yellowtail that I almost got to the boat.

The sea lions up here are getting smart too.  There were several times today when I had sea lions hanging out within 20 ft of my yak, and following me when i was trolling.
