Hi guys this is my first post on the forum.

I kayak fish out of my Eddyline Fathom, its 22" wide so its not exactly the typical fishing kayak but I find it plenty stable, the only problem is there is not much room to put fish.

The south Jetty of Grays Harbor, aka the Westport jetty has been extremely productive for lingcod and rockfish the past two weekends. The highlight was landing a nice 28" lingcod. Its about a 3 mile paddle from the public boat ramp to the seaward tip of the Jetty. The currents can get nasty at maximum ebb flow so fishing around a slack tide is ideal.

In terms of tackle, I use Chartreuse-colored 4" Gulp Alive swimming mullets on ~1 oz. Kalin S Jigs (matching color). In terms of Rod, 7' spinning rod with 20# mono line.

I would highly recommend Westport Jetty, weather permitting of course. This weekend I am headed out to Westport again on Saturday. I will try to take pictures this time, my digicam got dunked in saltwater :(

You should PM me.  There could be a better option if I might suggest it.

Over the last couple weekends, I caught a 28" ling and 2 black rockfish around 15"-13". The lingcod was measured by a boater who was next to me and was impressed I caught such a big fish from my little seakayak  ;D

Weather permitting, I'm going to hit Westport next weekend 5/28, 5/29 during the slack tides.

Lots of black rockfish around (~12-16") and hopefully some legal lings. Crabbing as well. With the right kayak aka Hobie and tackle one could easily limit a few species in a 2 hours. Its a pain to paddle to keep from being blown into rocks while landing fish, I lost a couple rockfish that way last week, damn seakayak :-[. The local marina rents a hobie adventure that I am tempted to rent to go to Westport and make up for the cost by filling the hold with fish!

Its a bit of a drive to Westport but if the weather is nice and the bar is calm, its worth the trip. ~80 minutes from Olympia and you avoid the traffic that goes to Ocean Shores and Hoquiam. If anyone wants to bring their kayak and come fishing send me a PM or just reply

Hey kardinal_84-----------I know where you're going with that.SSSSSShhhhhhhhhhhh....
Just razzin ya Rudy...we both know of better places than Westport.Maybe Neah Bay ??? Seiku ???

Micahgee---if you are fishing out at Westport you might consider putting in between the finger jetties by the Islander. It would save a lot of time and energy cause you'd already be near the main jetty..Good luck out there.
Life is short---live it tall.

Be kinder than necessary--- everyone is fighting some kind of battle.

Sailors may be struck down at any time, in calm or in storm, but the sea does not do it for hate or spite.
She has no wrath to vent. Nor does she have a hand in kindness to extend.
She is merely there, immense, powerful, and indifferent

Lol. Guilty as charged. I thought of ya when we both replied  back to AOJ posts about us being illegal. I wrote where we launched but was very glad they didn't post it. Lol. As well known as it is, no sense advertising!!!  Let them join this board if they want even a clue!  Lol

Not exactly. We posted on an Alaska forum and a reply came back implying we were in closed waters. We set them straight. Lol.

micahgee, I've fished out there from my Tarpon 140, live only 7 miles away, and might be available if you need a buddy. I'll try to be around that weekend. I've been too busy lately to do everything I'd like, being a sole proprietor of a landscape maintenance biz. Can't even get up to my favorite lake! Sheeesh!
You can park for free near the CG observation tower just off the jetty access road (with the surfers, etc) and launch from Half Moon Bay using a fat-wheeled cart to drag it up into the corner of the cove, then go out around the tail end of the jetty from there. Or lug it up an over that high and steep artificial berm from the Westhaven St Park parking lot...too much work for me since they added more berm. I have a Wheelez cart.

Gotta go!  Thanks for the report!
I'm losin' it  ??? getting tips from invaders about what's goin on in my own backyard... ;)

Micah, that's why I only go out there when the wind is blowing from the S, SW or W, or is nearly calm before coming up later in the morning.. I head in if the wind either picks up from the N or NW, or swings around and starts blowing from the NW and pushes me toward the jetty. I don't like to anchor out there.  I don't head out along the jetty when the wind is blowing from the NW, N, NE, E, OR SE.  Light SE that is forecast to turn S or SW later can be OK.

So what I'm saying here is that I look for favorable wind conditions for my go-outs here. Just to make it easier on myself.

Best tide timing would be to paddle out and hit it just at the low slack and fish the entire incoming up thru the high tide change.  Maybe go in for a break at half-time, and then back out. The paddle isn't far at all if you launch up in the corner of Half Moon Bay near the tail end of the jetty. You just might need a cart for that, though.

I will have a Hobie Adventure soon enough and that will really be handing for keeping in one spot while fishing in wind!

I'm headed to Westport Saturday and Sunday in a Red Hobie Adventure. The conditions look fishable and Sunday is supposed to be partly sunny!

I got a Gopro Hero so I will take some pics and video of my catch
