Been doing my research quite a bit lately, came across this place and so im here! I recently sold my aluminum flat bottom and ordered a perception sport pescador 12.0. Been trying to get a good idea of setups by looking at other folks yaks. Is there a thread where people are showing off their yaks with a mod list? I swear I searched!

My kayak is on the way still. :-[

My thought is see what other have done, but only apply what you need and where you need it. for example, I might not get to the ocean to fish soon, but still plan to add a flag. A rod holder extension might be a base for me to build one.  There is a nice flag with a light for around $80 but i want it higher already.
Type the boat brand& model name as a web search... go to photos onlyand see what people do, then try the website its on. Often its a forum from another region, but so far has given me tons of ideas.

still can't find that ladder for a marauder though ....j/k

Before you cut, drill, or glue anything to your yak, go out once without anything and figure out what your feel you need and where would be a good placement for it.  We have all ages, shapes, and sizes of people on this forum and it isn't always particularly clear when you are checking out pictures of their rigging.

and if you can't get it wet to do that, plop it down in the yard on the grass, sit down on it, and do the same thing as Yarjammer just told ya. don't try the drive way, you'll be rocking and tilting too much. take along a notebook, writing instrument of choice, and a sharpie.

I have a site that shows some of my mods.  http://guidesak.blogspot.com  on my mini-x.  You might also be interested in the video titled May 14 2011 Part II  that shows a newly bought perception pescadore 12.0 (zero modifications cuz I bought it the day before for my friend) landing a nice King Salmon in waters of Cook Inlet which every power boater told me was suicidal but after three trips, it seemed perfectly safe in my 9 ft mini x and 12 ft pescadore.  Here's the video URL.  It's a bit long but you can check out what the pescadore 12 is capable of!  Ignore the bonehead rookie moves by me.  focus on the pescadore and the gal catching the fish! lol.

Pretty cool to see the Time Bandit out there, Ill be sure to read more of the blog when I get some free time. Keep in mind that people in the kayak "know" call my 9 ft kayak "The Barge!". Cuz that's how it paddles. The kings only require a half mile paddle and we let the wind and current move us around.   But it can be done!!!!

Hey Cardinal. You really impress me with how you are out there to just have fun and share an experience with a friend.. If you land the fish that is great, but if you don't, you still had a shared memory. You even break your rod during the normal fish landing fire drill and you take it in stride. Your girl friend had a great experience landing her first Chinook and in large part because of the positive experience  you  set up so perfectly for her to enjoy. Lots of guys would have come unhinged with the challenges you were facing, and breaking their rods would have been the final blow. You obviously look at the world differently and I really liked it. You look like you would be great fun to share a fishing day with! Thanks for sharing that with us! Dave

Thanks Dave,
It was a blast though I will be the first to admit that I have NEVER felt that sense of relief after finally getting the net on the fish. Her first king ever, the first kayak caught king to be entered in a 17 year old derby...AUGHHHHH!!!!!

Hard to tell on the video, but even after I landed the fish, I was just nauseous with the sense of relief.  How guides do it after taking money is beyond my comprehension.  I couldn't do it.

My friend is literally the "girl next door" I grew up with.  Went to school K-12 with her.  Let's see I have flipped an airplane landing with her (her step father was the pilot), swam across a river after limiting out on cohos only to be confronted by a bunch of bears and swimming back ASAP, climbing a several hundred foot cliff only to watch her scamper down and I am STUCK on a cliff for an hour or more trying to get down, moose hunting before school with her screaming SHOOT IT, SHOOT it, and I didn't since I was too lazy to walk a moose carcass 3 miles back to the road.  She was willing!  lol.  She's both my big sister and little sister all in one. So that made it easier for sure.

I'm losing her to another region of this NWKA board this summer.  She wants to go try something different for a year she says.  I am taking resumes and a background check before I refer her to anyone as a potential kayak fishing partner...seriously....well sort of seriously...she is a big girl she can handle herself...a broken nose and a broken leg (which I had the personal satisfaction of watching as her line mate in hockey as she absolutely CRUSHED some guy cherry picking the slot who had pissed her off earlier in the game) by people who didn't heed that warning is enough for me to know she can handle herself.

I have caught enough fish and am old enough now that I kayak fish to make every fish more memorable versus bragging about how many fish I caught like I used to.  When I am not kayak fishing, I am using a 4wt fly rod or a super ultra light rig for virtually everything.

In so many ways, the people on this board instead of giving me grief over my inadequate mini-x, supported what I was doing rather than just mocking me.  And for that, this board and the people will always have my respect.

Okay, enough of the sentimental BS.  Gotta to finish up my business trip and go catch some fish!!!!!

And Kallitype, I'll take that prestigious honor.  lol  I deserve it!
