Well I just thought that I'd introduce myself on here.  I've been lukiing for a while but finally decided to sign up.  I'm a total noob to Kayak Fishing.  Such a noob that my first Kayak doesn't even arrive until next week.  I'm looking forward to finally getting on the water.

I've previoulsy owned power boats and I still use my float tube and pontoon for high mountain lakes.  I just wanted something that I can cover a lot of water while not being gas powered.  It seems like a kayak fits the bill.

I found out about the site from "The Nothing" over at www.oregonfishingforum.com  so thanks for that.  I'm sure i'll have a bunch of questions over the next couple months.

BTW, I'm over in Eastern Oregon and I've NEVER seen a kayak fishman over here.  If any of you come this direction let me know and we might go fishing together.

See you all on the boards.

Wecome aboard Joe!

There are a couple of yak fishers out your way, +1 when I make the trek each year.  ;D  You've got a lot of great water for yak fishing out there.

There IS a bunch of great water to fish over here.  I can't wait to go chase some bass and crappie in the next couple weeks down on the Snake and  I'll be flyfishing later this summer.

Everybody that I've talked to locally has a "Why the Hell would you want a Kayak?" comment for me.  I guess I'll just need to show them how fun it is before i can covert a couple.

If you head over this way make sure to let me know.

Welcome! I absolutely L-O-V-E fishing the high lakes in the cascades! Not really "Eastern" Oregon, but still a lot different than the Willamette Valley!

As a matter of fact... Ill be on Wikiup tomorow through Tuesday.  8)

Welcome aboard.  I was a TOTAL newbie and then I discovered this board earlier this year.  Now I am catching a few decent fish and doing it a lot more safely than before. Caught a LOT of grief on my normal "fishing boards" until I posted the results!  Now I think I need to open a kayak store in Alaska that sells sit on tops specifically for fishing! A lot more interest now!

There are some really good videos on youtube.  The video that sealed it for me was one of Jim Sammons video.
After watching it I thought..."What fisherman WOULDN'T want to do that???"

If your used to fishing lakes from your pontoon you'll love how much easier it is to cover water with the kayak.  I know what you mean by not seeing many kayaks over here.

Here's a link to somebody else's review.  lots of photos in it http://www.kayakfishingstuff.com/community/showthread.php?s=47887b22171dd311b7c89ea1dc885503&p=881725#post881725

I think it will be an OK starter Kayak.  I imagine that in a season or 2 I"ll be wanting to upgrade.

EObasser, your "located below McNary"?  you hit the Big C in the area with your Yak?   Arn't there Chinook in the area right now?

It looks like a good starter fishing kayak. If the price is good then go for it!

Plenty wide enough. You should be able to easily fish in lakes and other protected waters with a kayak like that.

Have fun paddling and fishing just make sure to wear a PFD, and leash anything that does not float (fishing rod, net etc)

Welcome aboard Joe, have fun on your new yak.  I'm central but sure could be talked into a Snake River trip very easily.

YES there is lots of Salmon around NO we cant fish for them.  Salmon is closed above Bonneville dam on the Columbia and the Umatilla has been blown out for weeks.  We did get a four day extension May 7-10 though and it was right in the heart of the run and fishing was pretty good.  I fish the Columbia from the kayak alot and would be more than happy to help with tips and recent reports if you ever find yourself over this direction

Wait a minute I just saw we get another six days starting this Saturday.  River is pretty ugly looking and counts are down but I might have to try to put some more in the freezer this weekend.

Hey Joe, glad you made it over. Hopefully the yak will show up soon! Hit me up if you ever make it toward the PDX area.

Nice to see you on the post.  This is a great place to learn the ropes.

The Willowa at the Minam confluence looks like fun. The Snake looks like a good bass river also.  I too, know what you mean about the lack of Kayak fisherman on the eastside.  I invited a few friends to duck hunt with me last year and they are hooked. I am moving to central Oregon in the next few weeks, we could hook up after that.

Welcome!
My family was just talking about Chickahominy Res.  It's a mud hole, but a productive one some years and we have water this year.  I drug a midge around and did well one year.. rather than sitting on ones butt wida power bait. Drove up to Testament lake last year that was pretty and productive last year.
Hear about the record Kokanee from Walowa lake?
The fun stuff is at:  http://magicseaweed.com/Lincoln-City-Surf-Report/316/
