Speaking of RevoRoy, where the hell has he been?
He hasn't posted on there in forever.

Royg has been busy commercial fishing, havent fished with him in ages...I see him occasionally at englund marine.

Fished today with Dave, conditions were great until 11 or so and then the wind kicked up. Fishing was slow , per normal this year. A fat 14.5 inch seaperch slammed my shrimp offering on the first drop and then i struggled to land another fish for hours... I wanted to live bait a greenling for ling but couldn't catch one.

Tomorrow i am going to Simpson Reef wether i have to go alone or not.

I'll be up at the ORC doughboy but royg probably wont.

I will make it out at least once this weekend. Maybe tonight if the wind dies. Looks like some decent days next week also.

Im not sure I want to paddle all the way to simpson. Isnt there a trail down from the lookout at simpson? I know people surf there sometimes. Im sure its steep, but ive carries my yak up some pretty steep trails before. Maybe i will go check it out.

A beautiful day at Sunset today. It's always  an interesting day fishing with CBY! Ended up with a keeper ling, and a nice black, out of 9 fish caught. Four of which were the biggest sculpin I have ever caught! The highpoint of the day was having a grey whale breach to my port, while I was looking starboard. The Whoosh really got my attention! Also, the sealions were ever present, and having fun chasing who knows what!

At the end of the day, I stopped on this beach for a moment of rest.

If you're going to do that tomorrow (Sat) I'm willing to give it a try. There's a paved trail down to the beach. Sometimes ODFW posts it to keep people away this time of year because of the harbor seal pups. If the beach is loaded with seals we might want to avoid going down there. I ignore the sign if I can avoid the seals. Otherwise we can haul down at South Cove (Roy's favorite haulout) It's easier with 2 people, 2 trips. I'll bring my wheels.

The other thing to try might be going with the wind to Simpson's & haul out there, but it's possible we could limit before getting there if we fish along the way.

I'm launching at Sunset at about 7AM. Maybe i'll see ya guys at Simpson or thereabouts.

I don'tthink the north cove would be a fun launch at lower tides. The ideal way to do it would be to use two vehicles park one at suinset and drive down and launch at south cove and fish all the way to sunset then pick up the rig parked at Arago.

Only problem with going from south cove to sunset is going against the wind. But it would save us from carrying the yaks up the trail. If i go, it will probably be in the evening. I think its supposed to be a little windy in the morning.

Im just going to wait and look at it before i decide. I have the less stable sit-in kayak, so it needs to be pretty flat out there.

Has anyone fished much there before? Is it worth the extra effort? Do you fish inside or outside of the reef?

I made it out at sunset tonight around 7. Fished till dark. Caught 2 20 inch lings, one keeper black, and a few smaller ones.  A couple were smaller than the jig i caught them on.

Heres a pic of dave and one of his Lings.

Fished today from 7:00 to noon, never made it to Simpson Reef. was slow going again but managed to C&R a 24 and 26 inch Ling and  a few each of greenlings and blacks. The black was nice.

Merz, I can't do the haul up the south cove trail but i understand you not wanting to fight the wind and current paddling. I have fished there once on the inside and it was fishy. I really want to hit the outside though. There was a bit of north wind early today and semi strong current, that's why i didnt go to Simpson.

Nice fish Dave.  Looks like the ocean was nice today.  There's a small craft warning out down here.
