The best Gulp Alive flavor in my experience is the swimming mullet. You get the gulp stink and the tail of a grub. Lingcod shred it quick but rockfish don't seem to do much damage.

So, can you mix certain gulps? Swimming mullets with grub tails probably??? how about the jerk baits?

I can probably keep all the shrimp ones together....

From what I understand from talking with shop owners, and from my own examination of various types of Gulp, the stuff that comes in the bag is all in the same juice and made of the same material.  I'd be surprised if the Alive stuff is not exactly the same.

Sounds like we need a separate discussion on Gulp.   ;)

Impressive - a recursive thread reference.  Must be a programmer.

I use all the Berkley softbait products, GULP! Saltwater, GULP! Alive, and the Berkley PowerBait both Saltwater and Freshwater versions.   I've got crabs, squids, shrimp, scampi, and curly tail grubs for saltwater, and minnows, leeches, crawfish, pogos, grubs, and more for freshwater.  I do not mix among product types, but I do freely mix within a product type.

I love these products, though the big baits are pricey, and I also save baits in their juice in their original packets or other juicy containers until they fall apart.  I have used the same scampi to catch a dozen rockfish over a couple of weeks.  Refrigeration helps extend life particularly during the long winter.  Never tried freezing.  When they go bad they release ammonia and you WILL smell it.

I've never tried the ghost/sand shrimp for sturgeon, but I always carry them in case I run out of live shrimp.

The PowerBait Saltwater grubs/curly tails/scampi are NOT the same material as the GULP! Saltwater products.  The PowerBait Saltwater products are more "plastic-like" and do not have juice in the packets.  But, they work.

I carry all the packets in 1 gallon freezer ziplocks and either throw it in the milk crate, stuff it in a side mesh pocket, or mini-bungie it to something.  I've even sub-sorted like bait into 1 quart freezer bags and put those in the 1 gallon bag.  (It's all about organization and process :))

If you can find a brand called zoom bait, I find them more durable and fish seem to favor them over gulp.

Just before Ling season opened I upgraded my tackle plastic to the plano waterproof version.  You can see them here on their mainpage http://www.planomolding.com/fishing/  The one I have is actually the one shown in the picture with the Gulp! bag in it.  3 sections, two of which fit gulp bags perfectly, and the third I fill with jig heads.  It's air-tight, so if I huli, it's going to float and I also put my gulp in a regular ziploc bag as the bags they come in are garbage.

I have been using the Plano "Guide series waterproof boxes" (they are the ones with the blue seal in between the lid) and although head and shoulders above a traditional Plano box they are not totally waterproof.   I would call them "serious splash proof" but they have fallen short of "submersible waterproof" for me

The redesigned boxes passed my submersion test.  I also have one for my river gear.  They have a double locking compression closing system and close down on what I think is a silicon tube ring.

Last time I went camping with the boyz, I spotted this tub full of Gulp. I couldn't believe that I hadn't thought of it already. It's one of those sealing tubs from Wali World (the mart, not my house).
Bought one and immediately dumped all my Gulp into it, including the $20 tub of swimbaits full of juice. I LOVE my little aquarium of Gulp.  That little plano tub is nice. Chappy bought a knock-off for $5 that even came with a pair of plastics tongs so you don't have to touch it. (the plano itself is a knock-off of the Gulp tub container)

I have a fair # of Gulp, Alive and PowerBaits.  I do well with PowerBait dough in fresh water and PowerBait Realistix for rockfish but the other stuff - not so well.  Haven't tried the swim baits as they are expensive and not in my favorite patterns.

I've found that Gulp works better in spots where there's a lot of pressure. Especially in the sound. On the coast I don't see much difference but certain species still like it a lot. Being biodegradable is a nice plus.

I have something similar to Wali's Tupper container. If you check out an Asian market that has Kim Chee making gear you'll find tons of truly water tight/air tight smaller trays at good prices. Central Market in Shoreline has a serious supply of all shapes and sizes.
