Just testing out a magicseaweed.com widget for Otter Rock.  This should be updated automatically over time when you revist the page.

I wouldn't worry about the current forecast yet, it's been changing on a daily basis.

Is there a set swell height that will cause us to cancel?

Anyone remember what the swell was last year?  I think it was bigger than is predicted this year.  Either way, I bought some Bonine yesterday.  :icon_puke_l: :icon_puke_r:

7ft or better will require an assement of whether we move it to our back-up venue (South Jetty fingers of Yaquina Bay)
10ft or better will require an evaluation of our back-up venue for safety.
15ft and it's just plain off.

Wind will also be taken into consideration when evaluating the status of primary and secondary venues.

A lot has to do with the period too.  7ft at 10 is a much different animal than 7ft at 16...

the Newport jetty tips on the sheltered side were better than the finger jetties IMHO when I went last went last Saturday. There isn't that much room especially with all the boat traffic but it is definitely fishable in rougher weather because of the protection of the jetty. Lots of nice 16"+ black rocks. Just my $0.02

If the forecast holds, all conversation on alternate venues will be moot.
2 fo the 3 major forecast models show 5ft swells and light (relative to the coast) winds.

I sure hope I didn't just jinx it!  :o

No Whammy! No Whammy!! No Whammy!!!

Well, if we're going to jinx things ... the forecasts show a nice window, meaning friday and sunday also look pretty good.

Hmmm ... that Sunday height to period ratio looks a little not so good, but whatever.

Praying I have no idea what I'm talking about and Saturday is just flat ass calm ...

The reason I ask is because 8 hours is a long way to drive for me.  I'd really like to know if we have a good chance of fishing Depoe bay.  I also understand you can't tell the future.

Based on the forecast, if I was just fishing it, I'd make the trip.  But I know you have to be very conservative.

I'll comment on it.

I see nothing in the 3 day forecast to indicate that we will need to move the competition.
