Find out which legislators sponsored the bill and vote for whoever is running against them. Maybe they'll "discover" they're out of a job. I'm sure Oregon will follow suit, Salem seems to do everything Olympia does a session later. Like tax, lottery, and day use fees aren't enough.

If you read more about the Discover Pass, there are a few caveats worth knowing that could save you some cash.  If you paid for a state park campsite you have access to those grounds w/o paying for a daily or seasonal DP during the duration of your camping reservation (keep your receipt handy).  If you are launching or using the facilities at a WDFW boat launch and have the WDFW parking permit that came with your license you do not need a DP either.  For everything else you are screwed.  I'll more than likely buy a DP just in case... as long as the money actually makes it into the parks system and not some municipal project I won't get too upset.

According to reports, and if they can be believed, of the $61M the DP is forecast to bring in over the biennium, 84% to State Parks, 8% to WDFW, and 8% to DNR.

Remember, all the WA state lottery money was supposed to go to education.

Looks like Queen up in Olympia needed some more money for some BS social programs for the lame and lazy instead of spending our hard payed for taxes for park upkeep. I especially like the provision that the DP is not transferable between vehicles, so they can really ding you.  Looks like the state parks will fall into disrepair again because of lack of funding and low use by the citizens that own them. So by the time I buy a Discovery pass to go into the state parks for $30 and them a snow park permit for another $20-$30 and then a Nw forest pass to park at trailheads for even more $$$$.  Maybe they should just charge for parking in front of the welfare and food stamp office they could probably make more money!  I guess all we can hope for is "Hope and Change" in 2012
If it wasn't for flashbacks, I'd have no memories at all.

A governor can propose a budget, but only the legislature can actually pass any appropriations. They are the ones that have the real say on what is funded, or not (and how). If you want to change it, bend their ears.

User fees (which is what these are) are a favorite idea of the right.

Education is what really eats up the state budget, and the state has been sued for a lack of it. There was supposed to be a hearing in  front of the State Supreme Court, today, about a case that the state lost in a lower court.

From the state constitution: "It is the paramount duty of the state to make ample provision for the education of all children residing within its borders, without distinction or preference on account of race, color, caste, or sex."

Still waiting on Rep. McCunes office to reply to my email asking where the justification for this is considering that UW has a permanent lock on the use and access of TWO state parks in the south eastern part of the state. i figure, if they want them that badly, they can buy 'em from the people of washington and the money can go into the two poorest natural resource managing offices.

Don't like the multi charge on vehicles either. If i am towing a trailer then i've got to pay double. wondering that if it's a yak trailer if some dillwad would also try to charge us per each of those too?

Discover Pass vehicle transferability signed into law

Remember the $30M/year revenue projections?  It was a lie.  Here is the reality:  "So far, revenue from Discover Pass sales has come in at less than half of original projections. Projected sales through the end of 2011 were $19.38 million, while actual revenue for the period was $8.2 million."

Saw that article as well.  I wonder if any of our lawmakers have any ideas what they could "possibly" do to double the revenue to meet the original projections?  My 2 Discovery passes can now become 1 transferable version....
