I just bought a Hobie Outback and wanting to purchase a FF. When looking at the hummingbird FF they all have a large base that appears has to stay attached to the main wire going down to the transducer. It looks like the large base has to be left on. If you look at the Cuda models you can disconnect the wire go into the back and that is all that left behind. What are all you doing that has a hummingbird FF doing. Any pictures of what your Kayak looks like with your FF head removed would be appreciated.... Thanks in advance for your help.

The online picture may be a bit misleading.

The wiring comes up thru the bases, then each individual connector actually has it's own parking spot within the neck of the base and stops there. Each Head unit has a Push to Release latch in the back that will disengage the lock and allow you to pull it off the mount base. Corresponding connector pins are located on the undersides of the Head Units.

The latch can be a bit tough when new to depress, and the Head Unit might be hard to pull off until it's done a few times. Everything is meant to fit tight so that it is water resistant. Trust me, almost nothing is ever waterproof unless you work very had to make it that way.

I bought an extra base so I can easily play with my Hummer indoors.  Here is a photo.  Also a link to my FF mount on a T13.

I use a ram mount with mine, and opted not to use the plug receptacle. You just have to plug the wires individual the same as if you had an Eagle, but the wires come from underneath instead of the back. Will try to post pics later.
