Great catch, we could use some of that calm water off Sunset.

How far out on the jetty did you have to go ? You had to have been on the north side to be that calm.
Ever fish for salmon out there ?Another 2 months and I should be down that way myself......
Life is short---live it tall.

Be kinder than necessary--- everyone is fighting some kind of battle.

Sailors may be struck down at any time, in calm or in storm, but the sea does not do it for hate or spite.
She has no wrath to vent. Nor does she have a hand in kindness to extend.
She is merely there, immense, powerful, and indifferent

Nice fish but I'm surprised you took a pass on the Lincod lapdance.....

Loved seeing the take on video!

I caught the other lingcod the previous cast, so I just put him on the stringer. 2 casts, 2 legal lings it was sweet. Dragging fish is....a drag  :P

I went out the south side to the red buoys (way past the jetty) , the tides were perfect for getting out there. It was rougher than it looked!0

I see PBers fishing for salmon and got me thinking about doing the same.

Glad you guys enjoyed it even with the amateur camera work and silly music. I'll try not to move my head as much with the GoPro next time I guess,

The best fishing for salmon off that coast always seemed to be 10 miles out in 200-250 ft of water.  But on many occasions just north of westport (kayak distance) in about 75 to 100 ft of water we did really well.  There are a few deep breaks that also hold some really nice black rockfish.

I would definitely hit the Grays Harbor fishing later in the year!  Maybe launch from Johns River?

Thanks for the tips kardinal, I'm getting excited for August/September!

The GoPro really doesn't give a good sense of the conditions. I was getting pulled into ~6' breaking/standing waves in the bar in around 4' swells. Grays Harbor has some pretty ripping currents even at mid sized tide changes (6-7' of movement) and it was a work out fighting against the current to get around the breakers in the bar for at least a mile to get back to the protection of the jetty. I had an hour or two of fishing time before the tide turned and really pulled me into the bar ~2kt.

For some reason the sea looks like glass when it sure as hell wasn't!
