Are you a Huli Master?  Want to learn how so get through the surf zone with all your gear? Like free food?
Well if you answered yes to these questions Next Adventure has the event for you.
On Sunday August 28th they are hosting their annual beach day at Indian Beach,Ecola State Park.  New this year they are having a section dedicated solely to teaching kayak fisherman how to  get out and back safely.  Hey and you may even learn how to surf a wave like a pro.  Here is all the info.

If the ocean allows, there may be some decent structure in the area to do some fishing too.

Would have loved to go, meet new people.  Maybe Next year.  Unfortunately  Sunday is a work day for me,  and I've used a lot of vacation on Sundays already.
Hopefully some day I get back into Kayak fishing, for now.  Gotta focus on Life.

Would love to learn.  I'm new to kayak fishing and just got my first boat, really looking forward to getting out there.  Besides the boat, PDF, and helmet, is there any other gear that I should have?

If you have a wetsuit or some other type of immersion gear I would bring that.  We may have some wetsuits you can borrow though.  Otherwise, for this event that should be all you need.

Here is the surf forecast for Cannon Beach.  It should be a fun day.

Sound like a great chance to learn how to do it right , I'm going to plan on being there, and what could be more fun than watching people surf launch for the first time.
If it wasn't for flashbacks, I'd have no memories at all.

Looking forward to some Huli practice tomorrow. We'd love to see some support from our brothers and sisters of NWKA if anyone can make it. We're also going to be using NA's fleet of kayaks, so no need to haul your own. Just bring your dry or wet suit

The best way to learn how to handle your boat in the surf is to use your boat in the surf, so feel free to bring your boats.  For SOT's we are bringing a Hobie Revo, Hobie Outback and an Emotion Mojo.   There are also going to be a few sea kayaks, whitewater boats and surf boats to play with too.

A big THANK YOU to the NA group. I really appreciated you sharing your experience with the others (newbees) that were there. I can say without a doubt I would never have attempted going out to the ocean without your help. Thanks so much. Now on to fishing in the big lake........

Guy thanks for coming out and making this a successful event.  I am glad you all had a good time and learned a little something about launching in the surf.  I know I learned a lot.  This was the biggest surf I have ever launched in and  by the end I was feeling pretty comfortable in it.  The fishing was a bit slow, there was a lot of sand but we were able to find some structure and few lings over by the rocks.

That was a lot of fun guys.. Thanks again for coming out and playing in the waves.

Here's some video I shot while hanging out in the surf.

1st video is Ndogg powering thru the surf using mirage and rudder.
2nd video is our favorite leader Jess(from NA paddle) surfing the waves. WATCH OUT rocks!!
3rd video is Ndogg, follwed in by Jess who got bumbed by his buddy. His buddy in the mini yak got his ass kicked!
4th video is Ndogg showing us how easy it is to drink salt water.
5th video is Ocorrigain in front, followed by DeluxeHarley and Ndogg in the ending.
6th pic is me takin by Ndogg after the event catching small Lings in front of an arch. Pretty cool out there!

All should be available in HD, but sorry the sound sucks!

Good times!

Jammer
