Hey All,

Espiga and I made our way over to the Hump to chase after a few kings this week.  We had been waiting for the river level to ease off a bit and start to clear for almost a week.  As neither of us had ever fished this river before, we opted to scout it out in a drift boat Wed. to make sure it was safe for floating it in our kayaks on Thursday.

Wed. was bitter cold with a bit of rain and wind and the river had yet to clear to the level we were hoping, but Espiga still managed to land a 15 lb coho (nice) and let another nice one off his line after a good fight.

We loaded up the yaks for a pre-dawn launch by the 101 tressel under a near full moon.  We fished kwickfish with a wrap of sardine and scent and Espiga killed it again with another nice 10 lb Coho and letting another off "easy" a few minutes later.  Later we switched to drifting eggs with a 3-4 inch pencil led and I was lucky enough to land a nice 25 lb hen king!  They were all bright as can be with sea lice still hanging on.

The most difficult aspect of fishing the river out of the yak was anchoring in the current.  It was difficult to lock in on the "spot" as quickly as I would have licked....I need to figure out an easier system that will drop off the stern and lock in in a moments notice.

Lots of drift boats out there.....and none of them seemed to know what to make of us!  Lots of smiles and curious questions... :)  Some how I get the feeling that we were the first yak reps to that river.  We'll be back soon!

Espiga has all the photos this time....

Pics please ... I'm getting antsy waiting for the pics.

Wanna go back Sunday.  I could certainly be talked into hitting it up instead of going chum fishing.

I'm having some technical difficulties, sorry for the delay on the pics.  I will get them posted soon.  I bought a camera that was missing the USB cable and the external reader they gave me at the store has the wrong connector.  Unfortunately, I don't live near the store, so I try to combine trips.  I should gt them posted soon.

It would be fun to fish next week.  Does anybody have any idea on the extended forecast?

Jesse

Nicely done.  Man that water looks small.  Where there any rapids or strong current to deal with at all.

I WANNA DO THAT!!!

you aren't really seeing the main part of the river in these photo's.  There were a few small rapids...class 2 at most.  The water has continued to drop so probably cake at this point.  A little worried that the water might be too clear now and maybe lacking the bright fish we were seeing.

My plans have changed and will be hitting it after the expected rains Tues-thurs of next week.

Thinking of hauling my trailer over that way and staying for a week or so.  We'll see.
