I got a new Gopro the other day and shot some video while fishing the Willy for smallmouth Bass with Craig. We had a great time out near GR park late in the afternoon pulling crank baits. This is my 1st video using the GoPro and just edited using my Playsport software. In the 2 hours or so that Craig and I were there, I think we both boated around 6 SMB's each. Notice how fat these bass are getting?
It was nice fishing with you Craig... Good times and cold beer!! I love this time of year.
Cheers!

Great Videos!  The fishing should be getting better and better as the water starts to cool down

Nice video Jammer.  Gotta love the GoPro.  As for the fishing, Jammer did a little better than me, as usual :).  I think I boated 6 beers, but not quite 6 fish.  In fact I caught the last 3 after Jammer left.  Here is Jammer with his AOTY upgrade smallie.

Here was one I caught when Jammer was still there. (The sunglasses are now at the bottom of Harriet Lake :dontknow:)

Here is what you missed out on Jammer.  The bite really turned on just before dark and continuing into the night.  I picked up my last three fish just trying to troll back to George Roger's Park.

This little 6-7 inch whopper attacked my 3.5 inch crankbait next to some pylons where I picked up the first one in the photo above.

I yanked this one out from below the rowing club boathouse.

And this one came while I was on the phone telling my wife I was heading back to the ramp.  I had to hang up on her.  A man's work is never done.

That last one was my biggest at 15 inches (+ or -).  I had nothing to measure with after Jammer left.
For perspective:

After fishing for trout up in the mountains in the freezing water yesterday, I may have to go back and hit the Willamette again to warm up my feet.

Fishing through Sundown is always fun. Nice Pudgy SMB, Guys!  That GoPro Hero takes beautiful video,. I'm anxious to test my new Hero out.

I heard that crimping the barb on a fly reduces your take by about 27% . Does anyone know how much hooking efficiency you lose, if you replace the trebles with single hooks? How about single hooks with crimped barbs? (Remember JMR, I had a long date in the emergency room because of trebles three years ago). One flopping around in your lap could change your seat in the Choir. Yikes!

Ouch!

You will love the GP Hero.  I like that it has the wide angle lens so I don't have to put it so far in front of me that I can't reach it.   I have mine on a piece of 1/2 inch pvc that fits in the mast hole of my Outback.   As for pinching the barbs, I don't know how much it would effect the catch rate on bass.  I have thought of bending up (slightly if possible) the the treble hook that points down on some of my crank baits.  I figure that may reduce the snagging a bit.

I'm ready!  I just bought 13 more crankbaits to replace the ones I have lost the last couple years.  I got a bunch of the Luhr Jensen Hot Lips deep divers for $1.98 at Dick's (50% ff clearance price).  Funny...I went there for sunglasses.  Still don't have new sunglasses.  They have some wiggle warts on sale, as well.

Man, I just need to pay the piper and blow the $120 for the out of state fishing license.  Looks like a blast, nice video Jammer.
If it wasn't for flashbacks, I'd have no memories at all.

Great video, lots of fun.  I went to Dicks last weekend, didn't get any of the 50% crank baits but bought 4, due to their buy 3 get 4th free.   thanks for sharing the video.

Hopefully some day I get back into Kayak fishing, for now.  Gotta focus on Life.

I have been bending back or clipping the hook on the front treble that points down for a long time. In North Carolina most folks did this so you could fish cranks around the hydrilla and wood. I do not think it has had much impact on my hookup ratio and it makes a big difference in how much junk you pick up. If you like to fish crankbaits get yourself a lure retriever. It was very rare for me to lose a crankbait when fishing from a boat. I just got my kayak so I am not sure if it was be as effective from the yak.
