Pelagic Paddler and I got out on the Columbia river for Chinook early Saturday morning. The sky was blue and the temps started out in the mid 70's early, but warmed up fast. Fishing was "RED HOT", especially for Ron on the out-going tide that morning. I had a big fat Chinook on early that put up a great fight, but decided to spit the hook and head up river. Ron was ON FIRE!!! I recorded Ron landing both fish using a GoPro video camera. The camera guy(me) and editor(me) have a lot to learn, but still having fun in the meantime. My favorite clip is Rons 2nd fish that flashes 4-5 feet below the water and then surfaces to splash.

The video should open in HD if you click the enlarge button in bottom right corner.

Thanks again Ron!!!

Sweet!  Barefoot? No dry suit?  Must be nice to catch salmon in those conditions!!!!

Nice video Jammer! Those were some awesome fish Ron!   I need to get out there sometime soon. Those conditions look way nicer than what Ndogg and I experienced last week in Astoria.

Great job on the video Jammer!  next time your rod will be the lucky one. Pic of Saturdays fish, wish I'd taken the time to wash them off and compose a better shot.

Great video Jammer!  Ron, great fish, very jealous, have not had the time to get out.  I am going to the beach with a friend this weekend, hoping to have the same action you  had!  Again, hats off to you both.

Yes....These Chinook were in great shape and glad you enjoyed watching the flick. Check this part out....the Fish Checker back at the Glisan Street Boat ramp made a comment to Ron and I that I thought was interesting. He said that of all 100+ or so boats that he had checked so far on Saturday, that no other boat as of 2PM had any kind of a limit on board. The fish checker was completely blown away that the first limit that he had documented for the day came from a Kayak. Pretty freakin cool!!!

Similar thing happened yesterday.  When we left at 2:30 fish checker said there were 11 fish, for approx 35 boats, of 2 which were ours.  Once again yaks kicking powerboat azz >:D

Not a bad first attempt Michael. Always fun to watch salmon fishing.

No doubt Ron is a real pro. I've had all my best steelhead days when fishing with him. Including many where we got 3-6 fish and we saw the PBs get nada.

I couldn't recommend Groundswell any higher.

Actually,  Now that Jammer has two video cams he's become a maniac mogul and has posted more than 16 movies on NWKA, so far. If you want to spend an enjoyable half hour watching NWKA fishers working the water, search "You Tube" for jmrischer.

My favorites, include four videos he submitted from the "Beach Days" workshop sponsored by Next Adventure, where newbies were given their first experiences unraveling the intricacies of surf entries.

Had me laughing.

Very nice job and some beautiful fish! I started strong this year but have been in a slump for my last 6 trips out. Have been working the Nehalem but without much luck. My buddy John has taken 3 while I have come up empty. There is always next time. Your video keeps me motivated!

Good thing we're staying motivated, from what I'm hearing this Fall Chinook run near Portland could stay fairly strong thru October.
