Howdy,

Yes I'am a Coos County resident who kayak fishes from a Hobie Revolution and sometimes my Ocean Kayak Frenzy when the weather permits.  I mainly fish Simpson's Reef and surrounding area.  Sounds like we should hook-up and catch some fish.  I noticed your a Hobie fan yourself.

Cool, finally someone from this area. I am new to Kayak fishing.I pedaled out at sunset beach once so far but mostly been in the lakes. my Hobie is my first and only Kayak and i love it....My buddie Ralph has one also, so maybe we will get a whole fleet together someday.

Supposed to be some nicer weather this weekend, definately gonna get out one day and do some fishin, if not on the ocean, on siltcoos lake or something.

If your gonna go fishin somewhere send me a personal message and post it up on the board and ill do the same.

That sounds like a plan.  I just picked up some new burlap sacks for my catch in Empire the other day and my wife should get me some more fishing equipment for X-mas.  I'am just searching for another fishing rod now.  It is hard to find anything for bottom fishing with the trigger handle.  I know Lamiglas has one out, but they want too much.

Hi guys,

This is my first post on NWKA, but I have been a member of the NCKA for a while.  I live in Monterey, CA right now, but will be moving to just north of Seattle in early '09 and will be looking forward to fishing with you guys.

My wife is from North Bend, coosbayyaker, and there is a good chance I will be in town sometime this summer with my yak amd itchin' to get out.  Hopefully we can hook up then.

I am a graduate of Oregon State University, and while I was there I spent as much free time as possible in the spring, fishing from the jetties at Newport.  The rockfishing could be downright ridiculous there at times.  Does anybody yak fish in that area?

I'm in Corvallis and have made the trip to Otter Rock a few times for rocks and lings, but haven't been in the salt close to Newport yet. The jetty there sounds like fun and have heard others say the same.

I'm sure when it comes time to tick off my AOTY ling, rockfish, and cabezon a trip to the south/central coast will be in order.

Sunset Bay is a nice place to launch, here in Coos Bay. Plus you'll have someone to go with. And i can drive 2 miles this time...

Hey Mike,

I have relatives in Corvallis.  GO BEAVS!!!  Anyway, about the jetty, check the wind and when it is low, go!  We had our best fishing in May.  My buddies and I would walk out on the south jetty and fish the ocean side when the waves were cooperating.  If you stay until dark, you can get the rockfish on topwater lures.  Most of the lings we caught were undersized, but fun anyway.  Lots of greenling and a few cabezon also.  Perch are there as well.  My best day was catching 7 lings over a couple of hours.  I've tried the north jetty, and besides the helluva long walk, the fishing isn't as good.

It has been about 7 years since I was there last, but I would imagine a launch is possible from the beach on the south side on a low wind day.  I've fished it from boats too and we always caught fish.

Just wanted to share and encourage you to get out there so I can read your reports and relive the good ol' college days.

Good luck!

Paul

Hey Roy,

How is the fishing there at sunset beach?  I've been to the park there and it is a beautiful spot and it looks to about about the kayak-friendliest launch spot I've ever seen.  I'm looking forward to giving it a try this summer.

Paul
