They weren't going to do it this year, but it was resurrected due to "popular demand".

Sunday, October 9th. $30 entry, sign up at Englund Marine Newport.

Last year only 2 chinook were caught for a 60/40 split of $1000. Kiwanda Jr. And I were the only kayak entries and we took more than our fair share of disparaging looks and comments.  It sure would mean a lot to the Central Coast Crew to have an NWKA at least place or possibly win this great event and rub some upturned noses in their own stink.

I'll post the link when it gets out, but for now, start banking WAF, and put the date on your calendar.

Were you able to make it out? If so how'd you do?

I competed, but didn't get a bite. I went upriver to Toledo and there were good numbers of silvers being caught (Sunday was the last day on the native quota) but the kings caught were boated down by the Y.B. bridge. There is a good hole right in front of the CG station, but I thought it would be a total zoo. MMQB, I should have wedged myself in there. Never made it to the weigh-in, don't know who won.

Met another kayak fisherman at Englund Marine when I was registering. He said he was a NWKA lurker, I encouraged him to sign up. I saw him again Sunday getting ready to launch a few miles below where I put in. We were the only two kayaks out there, but I was the lone entry in the tourney, as far as I know.

BFLNY

All the power boaters were very courteous and had nothing but encouraging comments for me. The U-Da-Man draws a good crowd, I hope next year some NWKA folks will join the festivities, because it is a worthwhile cause.

Also fished the incoming on the Siletz from Chinook Bend down to 101 and back on Saturday with same shitty results for me. Probably 15 fish caught on that stretch, all but one on kwikfish. They weren't taking herring or Brad's. The boards at C.B. and C.R. showed that this year has been much more productive than last year.

Stopped to talk to the fish checker at C.R. and she said native coho quota on the Siletz is only at 20%. Fish are still moving up the Siletz, go get 'em.

Well nice job getting out there and fishing for the yaks. Sounds like a fun event to fish, I'll try and make it down there next year. Just a few too many things going on this year.

Banger thanks for the report. Which size and color of Kwikfish were they using? Were they just tying it on or running a diver before the Kwikfish with a leader in between? If I ever get a chance to get down to my place at LC I would like to give her a shot.

Oh you know what they say FB, any color kwikfish works as long as it's green. Dill pickle, fickle pickle, or grinch are what most people use, K-13 or 14.
