I'm wanting to buy a dry/semi drysuit for running rivers like the upper part of the Willamette, the Santiam and other rivers in the area. I don't think I'll ever hit anything bigger than a class 4 rapid in my T13 but I want a drysuit that will keep water out even in the event of a huli in a big white water rapid. I'm thinking of going with the Kokatat T3 Super Nova Angler but I'm concerned that it will let too much water in if I huli in a class 3/4 rapid. I'm not saying I'll be hitting class 4 rapids all the time but I want to be prepared for the worst just in case.

What do you guys who own the T3 Angler think? Will I be able to tighten the neck gasket enough so that only a little bit of water will come in? What about durability with that suit, is it very abrasion resistant? I know it has a 2 year warranty but does that cover rips/tears? If the T3 Angler is a bad choice for white water, what choice would you make? I'm looking to spend less than $600 for a new suit with a good warranty.

Thanks in advance for all your help, I really appreciate it.
Chris

I've found through personal experience that SOT yaks are not the best white water boats.  Anything above class 2 is asking for problems IMO.  Not saying don't try, its you call and life's about adventure but just like a canoe is not a good surf board a SOT is not a great white water boat.

I guess I should say that I'm not hitting the river just for white water kayaking.....I'm mainly on the river to fish and check out the scenery. The rapids are just something I have to get through to get to my next fishing destination down river. I've hit a couple class 3's in the last couple months and my boat has handled it fine. I never even came close to a huli. I don't yak in rivers that are really narrow either, rivers like the Santiam and Willamette have sections that are quite wide but still have nice class 3 and 4 rapids. In my opinion, with thigh straps, a SOT kayak can be a great whitewater boat.

Basically, I just want to kayak as many of the routes as I can in the book "Canoe and Kayak Routes of Northwest Oregon and Southwest Washington". Some of those routes have class 4 rapids in the Winter time and I want to be prepared.

If you are going to run rivers in the winter you should go with a full dry suit.  Dumping in rapids is not like dumping in flatwater. Big rapids have a tendency to suck you under for a bit.  Without a latex neck you will get water in your suit.

I was just trying to imagine what it must look like to see a SOT going through class 4 rapids ......   thank goodness for YouTube

I used to think that Bigfoot might exist. Then I saw the reality shows where they are looking for them.  Now I am certain they don't
