Fishing this Saturday

Hey all,

It looks like I will be able to get out fishing on Saturday morning and through part of the afternoon. If anyone already has a plan and doesn't mind some company perhaps we could meet up. Posts here or PMs welcome.

If no one has a plan then I am thinking about smallmouth and sturgeon fishing on the Willamette (probably GR park, but I may try somewhere new).  The high tide for Saturday is around 9:14am at St. Johns so I was thinking that I would bass fish while the tide was high and then sturgeon fish starting later in the morning as the current picks up a bit.

I"ll be out fishing Saturday as well...... but about 170 miles upstream on the Big C.

Anybody is welcome to join.

Thanks for putting out the call J.  It was good to meet you out there today.  I had a great day with four keeper size (all were up for a sleigh ride and two were over 50) and two more shakers.   Here are the pics.

Way to go guys.  Now why can't those fish be in the Columbia?

Nice meeting you to A. I ended up catching 7 but 5 were small. However, one was a new personal best. I think it would have been getting really close to legal size.

I should have come down by you but I was getting bit so fast I kept thinking I was going to hook a big one any minute. Glad the picture turned out OK!

I'm glad to see that DC still has his big fish mojo!

Wished I would have fished Thursday.  I was at George Roger Park, but after seeing the path leading to the boat ramp.  I turned back and got into my truck and went home.   
Maybe this coming Friday.   I love to get some Sturgeon action before the year ends.

Definitely! I really wanted to check to see if the spot I had fished the week before was a fluke or if it really was a good producing spot.  While it is early to draw a conclusion I am starting to think that the smaller fish are more prevalent in the deeper water. This is based upon this trip and the prior trip. Additionally, a guide anchored up pretty close to me and they caught one nice one and a bunch of small shakers as well.

FYI.. There's a couple launches on the east side of the river too that I use for launch near George Rogers. My favorite has a really small hill and parking within 100 yards of the river. Send me a pm if you're interested.. The East side has some great launches. I'm thinking of hitting GR park very soon as I'm starting to experience withdrawls from "not"catching anything big lately. I need a hit of the "tug Drug" if you know what I mean?? You may see me down there soon.

Hey Jammer, do you launch off of SE Oak Grove? I saw a launch from the river but I did not know if parking there is an issue.

For now I do not let the hill stop me from launching at GR park (although I might if I had a Pro Angler). However, if there is an easier launch that was a similar drive I would definitely try it!
 

Yep...Oak Grove is one of them.. Oak Grove launch is great for kayak's because the boat launch itself is in such bad shape that VERY few boats actually launch there(low water months). Plus there's very little parking especially with a boat trailer. A single car/truck have a lot more room to park, especially if there's no trailers around. It does get pretty busy during Springer season as the river is usually high enough to launch a boat.  We are going to be hosting some new clinics at Next Adventure Paddle center in the upcoming months that will focusing on fishing local Sturgeon and other species specific clinics that will a have a lot of focus on the Willy. Stay tuned for that soon.
