Ok, on several occaisons I've seen post about dry-tops for around 50$,  I've not been able to find one even close to this price.  So are we talking about Rain Gear here or an actual sealed dry-top?  Where can I score a deal on one of these?

I cant speak for everyone else but I have never seen a quality drytop for $50. Maybe on craigslist or maybe eBay but not at a shop. I would say that the bottom would be more like $125 and quality is always an issue. My view is get the best top for what you can spend as my dry gear is not only for my comfort but for my safety hypothermia strikes quickly.

I don't think I'd want a $50 dry top, and cant say I've ever seen a new one that cheap before. On the other hand if you are talking about a "paddling jacket" or a "splash jacket" that's a horse of a different color! Not exactly immersion proof but for most of us this would fit the bill if worn correctly in most waters. Should you get separated from your vessel and/or left floating out in open cold waters you would want/need true "immersion" gear.

I just recently bought a nice one for $85 bucks and free shipping. You can find cheaper ones than this though

As an update:
The Stolquist splash jacket I listed below is now on sale even further than when I bought it (30% off!) and is now at $69.97! This is a jacket you will want to wear every day here in the PNW! Great jacket and even better price!

My rave of Backcountry.com :
Has a fantastic "unlimited, no questions asked" return policy.
I was refunded the difference.
Has free 2 day shipping on orders over $50.
I used their online chat with questions- Excellent customer service!

Didnt mean to hijack the thread, but thought the underlying theme of cheap drytops/splash jackets, I dont think deals (or vendors) get any better than this!

I have the long sleeve Stohlquist "Torrent" splash top. It doesn't have a hood, but has a neoprene neck and cuffs that have velcro closures.
I think I like that "Splashdown" jacket better, because it has a hood and more accessible pockets. The front belly pocket on my Torrent is always covered by my pfd, and anything bulky inside might interfere with a smooth re-entry, should I capsize.
