So, I recently inquired as to what was is YOUR milkcrate.  I suppose it's time to show you what is in mine.  Well, ours.  It's kind of shared property.  Between polepole and myself.  You see, we got to talking one day, and, before we knew it, we were off searching for the definition of the kayak angler lifestyle.  We never did find an answer, so we decided to search a little harder.  And, in the process, made this:

www.themilkcratemag.com

It's an online magazine that is pretty simple in concept:  interview the anglers, artists, professionals, and craftsmen who are defining and changing the sport. Head over and check it out.  Let us know what you think.  Really.  There's a Facebook page, too.  Add us, and we'll send updates and goodies.

I've rambled long enough, but I'd sincerely like to thank Zee, Spot, Pelagic Paddler, and bsteves.  Their help and guidance really moved the project along.  Thanks, guys.  Beers are owed.  And lastly, many thanks to polepole. For, well, everything.

Go forth and explore The Milkcrate.

The Milkcrate is a celebration of the people who define and grow the culture and lifestyle of kayak angling.  Through interviews, photographs, and editorials, this project documents the ideals and motivations of a group bonded by a sport that, while still in its beginning stages, is heavy in self-defined growth.

Like the plastic boxes affixed to so many fish-bound kayaks, The Milkcrate is a gathering place for many of the details integral to the sport.  Here you will find a community of artists, professionals, craftsmen, and anglers coming together to tell the stories of how and why they pursue a life touched by water and nature.

Issue #1 went live today and the list of interviewees absolutely rocks.  We have Tim Niemier, Gary Sinkus, Paul Lebowitz, and Karen and Mark Ezell, as well as Northwest locals Bryce Molenkamp, Ron Sauber, Mark Veary, and Brian Steves.  Some of these people you may know, while others may leave you scratching your head.  But all have an interesting story to tell.  And all come together in what we call the Kayak Angler Lifestyle.

If you like what you read, let us know, and stop by our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Milkcrate/215496168504351?sk=wall) and give us a "like" too.

This has been a cool project so far, getting to know some of the minds behind the madness.  We have a pretty good pipeline of interviews on deck, with a whole lot more behind that still.  I'm super excited to see how this unfolds.

If you have any suggestions on who you'd like to see interviewed, we're all ears.

-Allen

I was glad to see a nod to sailing kayaks in the intro. It's been nice to have a warm reception from the NWKA community, I wasn't sure my Tandem Island would be welcomed. Great job on putting the history together.

Thanks, IslandHoppa.  We're trying hard to document all facets of the sport.  You'll enjoy Tim Niemier's pictures (of which there may come more), as he has sailed and built some gorgeous craft.

Having fished (quietly) for 25 years from a kayak,it's pretty cool to see/read about some of the more celebrated inovators of this sport. Thanks to those that are putting this together. It's a good read and always cool to see where we came from with an eye on where we are going.
    Well done fellows.............
Life is short---live it tall.

Be kinder than necessary--- everyone is fighting some kind of battle.

Sailors may be struck down at any time, in calm or in storm, but the sea does not do it for hate or spite.
She has no wrath to vent. Nor does she have a hand in kindness to extend.
She is merely there, immense, powerful, and indifferent

Is there anything the rest of us can do to help support the site? Pictures, suggestions, etc? I might be cool to have a letters to the editor section. Lots of possibilities really.

We're all about the people in the kayak angling world and representations of the people, as in pictures, videos, stories, art, and music.  So let us know if you come across anything good in this regards.  Suggestions on who you'd like to see interviewed are always welcome!  Thanks for the interest.

Hi Noah,

Thanks for offering support.  That's really awesome.  Right now, the best support is word of mouth and social media linking.  Facebook, Google+ (coming soon), blog posts, all that.  We're still mulling over some "special edition" sort of stuff, so by all means, send me a letter or pictures or anything of the sort.  No guarantees that anything will get published, but I will certainly think of ways to incorporate these sort of things.  I have some early ideas, though.  Stay tuned...

As for suggestions...YES, PLEASE!  We're new, and welcome all feedback and suggestions.

For submitting any of the above, see the contact info on the site.

Again, thanks for the interest!
