Man seeking Columbia River sturgeon between 38 to 54 inches in length (nose to tail fork). Preferably, in the Portland metro area. I promise I won't eat you, or do anything weird to you. I just need a picture of you on a measuring device for AOTY points. You will be released unharmed, except for the cool new lip piercing. Must be available on Thurday, Friday, or Saturday. Must be willing to meet between RM 40 upstream to Bonneville Dam.  If interested, pm me!

That may be the first time in history that phrase has been spoken.

Craig,

How about the week after Thanksgiving - Thursday or Friday would be good for me. I may get out this next week and do some C&R just to locate them. With the sail I can cover some territory around the Camas/Sandy/Reed Island areas.

SteveHawk, you up for another trip?

I am up for the pursuit of the elusive keeper sturgeon.  The Friday the week after Thanksgiving is out for me, though.  However, the Thursday could be doable.  I may try next Friday, though (day after thanksgiving).  I may even try the morning of Thanksgiving.  If I do that, it will probably be at Kelly Point Park or somewhere else near Portland.

Hey Craig let me know if you want to go the day after thanksgiving. I should have a pass.

I will do so.  I will put up an open invite.  I would probably hit Rooster Rock if I do.  There are a few holes in that area and the trip from the launch to the fishing grounds is current free.  Makes for an easier return trip.  Also, Washington folks could hook up with us, as well.

How about the Chinook Landing area? It seems like there are some good holes around there too.

Ooh, ooh, I'd go for either Rooster or Chinook Landing this Friday. If the winds are right I can sail to either from Parker's Landing.

I need to get a sturgeon rod, leaders and bait. I'm stoked!

SteveHawk, you want to join me?

Personally, I would favor Rooster Rock because it is only 8 miles farther distance wise from my house in Tualatin, but time wise is a two minute difference in driving.  The launch is closed to power boats at Rooster Rock right now so it isn't crowded.  I know several spots to fish there, I have no clue about Chinook landing.  I didn't see any obvious holes on the NOAA pocket chart map at Chinook Landing other than the main channel.  That doesn't mean there are none.  If you know of some, I would be up for trying it.  It would save me a gallon of gas.  I would be up for exploring it sometime.  However,   the AOTY year is almost over and I am leaning to the familiar for more time on bottom and less time exploring.   I have a trailer and could pick you up if you want.  I believe you are north of me so you would be on my way.

Hoppa, get that rod.  You could also launch at the Rooster Rock.

There is another spot I have wanted to try, but I am hesitant because I am not sure if I would be committed to an asylum, or not, for trying.

FYI, my Columbia River fishing map says about the Chinook Landing area: Below the "Power lines" is Excellent for Sturgeon and mouth of the Sandy is excellent for Salmon and good for Steelhead.

This looks to be about a mile upstream from Chinook Landing.

That map doesn't say anything about Rooster Rock area.

I'm happy to try either one.

Maybe that is my problem ;D

What the heck, maybe a change in scenery would change my luck.

hmm...found another map and a deeper hole nearby there.  Let's give it a shot.
