Just a question regarding painting lead jig heads for the salt....

Being new around here and gearing up for the salt, I've been accumulating lead jig heads in various weights courtesy of eBay. Of course they're un-painted. I'd like to paint some of them but have NO experience painting lead. Any tips to getting them painted up without the paint flaking off? Thanks in advance.

Powder coat them.  Youtube has some great tips on how to do this via fluid beds, and a toaster oven.

'creeks,
not sure where you are located. If in the Sea Tac area, look into Sportco/ Outdoor Emporium for painting supplies.

That's a great video set, INSAYN. Thanks, i book marked it.

This is a cool way to three way color your spoons too.

Rattle can Rustoleum... Cheap, fast, lots of colors and as far as I can tell the fish don't mind.

I used Pro-tec powder paint.  Wasn't cheap or easy to use, but the fish did not mind either.  I will probably make the switch to the Rustoleum.  Here is a couple pictures of what a jighead with the Pro-tec powder paint looks like after bouncing the bottom at Depoe Bay for a couple hours.

Paint - not real durable, but then again, it was bouncing off the rocks for awhile.  Rustoleum would be a quicker cheaper touch-up.

Big Hammer Swimbait-  several lings and full of tooth marks=durable.  Thanks for the ORC swag Polepole.

Holy crap, why haven't more people thought to do this?!  Brilliant!  Looks like I have another item on my hardware store list.

I only use two colors for most of my jigs:  High gloss white and high gloss bright red.  Painted several hundred jigs and both cans are still half full.  It does wear off a tad when you are fishing the bottom hard for lings but I can live with it.  Paint sticks best on fresh poured jigs.  I have used spray clear coat over them before but I think it just makes them look prettier to us, plus it stinks.   Don't overlook the "Glow" Rustoleum either 8)

I stop buying painted jigs unless I was have to, unpainted still catches fish as long as you throw a Big Hammer on it. But, having the molded in eyes do seem to work better than the ones without.

I have been known to buy bags of Googly Eyes at the craft store and super glue them to my jigs, the bigger the better.

Thanks for the heads up Pelagic. I've already started painting a few white to match a little better with some white and glow grubs I like..
I'll bet those eye's you buy from the craft store would work great with the triangle shaped jig heads that Craig uses. A small dab of Gorilla glue and you're set..

I have had the best results using powder paint.  It just seems to resist chipping off better,  especially if cured in an oven.
I use a vibration style fluid bed instead of the air type as in this video.
When you dip in the heads if almost seems like your dipping into a liquid.

I used to think that Bigfoot might exist. Then I saw the reality shows where they are looking for them.  Now I am certain they don't

Thanks for all the input fellas!  Powder has the durability edge for sure but I'm handy with a rattle can so I'll try that first.  Wonder if I scuff it up first with some steel wool it'll  help with the bond?

So, now that the big hammer swim hairs were added to the discussion, what size and colors do you all prefer?
With or without a jig skirt?

Thanks again fellas. If any of you AOTY hopefuls need a piggie RBT or LMB, I may have an idea or two in C.O. area for an upgrade.

I would drive to Central Oregon if I could get a LMB.  Next week I am off every day.  If I get the necessary permission slips, I may try.  Noah, you still have some use or lose vacation time?  Anybody else?  Again, I would need permission from SWMBO.
