Heard about this stuff and it almost sounds too good to be true. The video's on their site don't quite suspend my disbelief either. The demo's look good, but the "sciencey" ones look like smoke and mirrors (literally). Gotta love the lab assistant with her hair in a bun. All of them look like they were produced by Ron Popeil.

For $60 to $80 bucks, you send your device to be waterproofed for life with a special vapor fixed to your device by a "technology thats only found in the natural world on the surface of the sun" :dontknow: (I didn't realize that there was technology on the surface of the sun)
Sounds really,,,,,interesting, but I'm pretty happy with the commando driod.

So who's going to be the stuntman?

I'd suggest you be the Guinea Pig, but it won't be worth the effort if you just let it sink the bottom of the drink.   :-\

Liquipel is a unique coating that is meant to protect your electronic device from damage resulting from accidental and incidental exposure to water. WE NEVER SUGGEST OR RECOMMEND THAT YOUR DEVICE MAY COME IN CONTACT WITH WATER OR ANY OTHER TYPE OF LIQUID. We do not warrant that the coating of your device will work perfectly or that it will work under all conditions.

Man, with a note like this I would expect the process to be a bit cheaper than what they want for the process.  They don't put a lot of trust in their own product.   ::)

If I could get it done locally while I waited I would probably do it for some extra piece of mind. I would be particularly interested in adding it on top of a waterproof device like a VHF (extra insurance). However, I am not going to send my phone through the mail - not even for science :)

Ok. I'm drawn to this stuff like a bear to honey (do bears actually like honey?)

Why is there an empty harbor fright box 'o nuts case and 3 sets of cheap jewelers screwdrivers on the peg board behind his sciency workbench?  The ipad stuck to the side of a furnace cabinet with it's attendant stylus on a string, two big red buttons and the blue flashy light thingy look like they are straight out of a 50's sci fi movie (only at 360p).

If this stuff does work, they really should fire their marketing guy (or perhaps consider hiring one)

This video is for demonstration purposes only. Liquipel and its affiliates do not recommend bringing any electronic in contact with liquid. Liquipel is a preventative measure. Do not attempt to recreate or reinact anything performed in this video.
The fine print at 44 seconds. Not exactly standing behind their product.

I wonder why they choose to use a Nalgene water bottle to pour water over the phone?  That water could very well be a fresh batch of deionized water that would do very little (if any) damage to the electrical devices in such a short test they do.

Run that phone under city supplied tap water, or dangle it in a lake and prove to me the product is worthy.  Or put two phones in the same environment at the same time, one treated and one untreated.

I was in the hut tub at the Athletic club on Vashon yesterday AM, after rfecquetball, and a guy came in, sat down and a few seconds later said
"Oh, Damn!!!"  He got up and pulled his Ipod out of the pocket of his shorts....Bet he'd like to have tried the liquipel!  I have run my little Ipod Shuffle thru the wash, it does not like that!

You could spend 60 bucks and send your phone in for a dubious "waterproofing" treatment or you could get something like

http://www.amazon.com/Dry-Pak-Cell-Phone-Case/dp/B004C4YWNG/ref=pd_sim_sg_2

At a quarter of the price of "waterproofing", it actually prevents water from entering the electronics and they float.

My wife once turned her iPod into an iPotty. I've done the same with an iPhone.

Yep, I'd go with the Dry-Pak. Only a fool or idiot would send their phone in to get it "shrinkwrapped," and not only with no guaranty that the process even works, but loaded with disclaimers that it actually might not function in real life conditions. These liqupel hawkers are trolling for suckers, I think.

Or you could get a waterproof smartphone like the Casio G'Zone.  Then, leash it.
