Instead of Portlandia's "put a bird on it", my new slogan is "put a mirage drive in it."   ;D  I have already figured out how to do it on my cedar strip pirogue.  I just need to make a rudder mount for it.  My 18.5 foot canoe may also get the retrofit.  But I really want to track down the plans for this:

My wife reminded me that i have to finish the kitchen remodel first, though.

I don't know if I will get it done by then, or not.  The Outback has slowed me down since It isn't as much of a necessity right now.  But, my brother moved here now and he will need a yak, so that may light a fire under me.

Very cool! Did you get a spare drive yet?

Not yet. I think that one I tried to buy off craigslist may have been stolen.  The seller lost interest in selling to me when I asked too many questions.

If you are really interested in a spare drive, you might post over on the Hobie forum. There have been a least a couple of guys who have wanted to buy hulls minus drives, seats, and paddles, usually because they already own a Hobie. Although it is apparently an option, not all dealers are cooperative about it, so several suggestions have been made that people looking for a hull only Hobie try to find buyers for the drives, and just buy the whole boat. This would probably work out for both parties since the discount for the hull only is about the same as the replacement cost of a drive.

I know of several places that I can buy a new drive.  I am sure Next Adventure could order me one.  If not, Austin Kayak sells them with the Turbo fins for $540  :o.  Apparently they went up in price by about $20 since the last time I looked.

Noah, I may have to do that.  I only need another drive if someone else is using my yak.  I can always use the one I have unless I make a tandem.  I may make a triple that has multiple drive locations.  Front and back for two adults and the middle for one dad and two boys. Gotta separate them so there is no fighting.
