Well I guess the subject says it all.  Just tryin to see if its worth going out to point no point or the hood canal for blackmouth.  Never fished for them before so any help is more than welcome.  Thanks guys.

My plan at this moment is to go out and try my luck up around Bush point, Lagoon point and Admiralty inlet on Sunday.

Ok so I just finished reading that report on bloody decks, and unfortunately these techniques are new to me.  Can anyone explain mooching to me?  Is it worth going out in a yak to find these guys?  Is a down rigger required?  Does anyone want to go out the weekend of tge 18th for these guys?  I'm still in the market for a fish finder and it seems like that is a must for this type of fishing.  I have a 350 gift certificate.  Might make a trip to cabelas and stock up on some blackmouth/ any salmon essentials if people would care to share?  I have plenty of rods and reels that should meet the occasion.   PM me if anyone would help.

Also, if you type mooching into the search engine on the site it will bring up pages and pages of old post containing your key word.

Well I have never fished blackmouth but I do fish salmon in the summer so I have the gear. Downrigger, ff etc. I'll be fishing on the kayak that weekend but weather will dictate where I go. If the weather is decent I'll go but I'm def not an expert.

I ended up fishing Admiralty inlet today, i made runs back and forth from Lagoon point to Fort Casey.  Trolled cut plug at 60FT for about 2 1/2 hours no Blackmouth, one frealkishly large dogfish.  Since I have yet to install a FF water temp was not possible.  Cut depth in half and switched to spoon with Squid trailer.  1 hour later and I'm fighting to land what i can only guess was a 18lbs. beauty, I get it beside the yak and start to reach for it and one shake later it was a memory.  Not another bite for the rest of the day.  I will be carrying a net from now on C&R or not. :-\

Wow. That's closer than most of us get to a blackmouth. Nice work. Interesting about the dogfish. I didn't think they stuck around in the winter.

Thanks for the report.

You and me both concerning the dogfish.  I was really surprised and then not so surprised since the last 6 trips for salmon that I have made ended up in bigger dogfish than salmon.  Don't get me wrong, fighting a fish is fighting a fish.  I'm just wondering if the dogfish pop isn't getting out of hand.  It seems anytime I am even close to the bottom it is all dogfish!  Can I get an Amen or am I just doing something wrong?

Just returned from a trip to Point Defiance Boathouse and asked the question, not may boats out, but they are catching a few in 140 ft of water on a very slow troll. I don't yet have a yak to fish from, but hope to soon and plan to fish the waters off Rustin Way in Tacoma.

Group meet up could also consider a small beach with parking and access there as well, The old Dickman Mill site, nice gravel beach that's protected by old pilings.
