My son is flying into PDX on the 20th for a week. I'm planning to spend the week on the Oregon Coast taking in the scenery and doing some fishing. He's a very experienced Salmon and Steelhead fisherman from his past years in Eureka (this photo is probably 15 years old.

My two thoughts are Wheeler Marina on Nehalem Bay and WorldMark Seaside. Since it will be a family trip we'll have the wives and my sweet baby granddaughter (18 months old) all together. I do hope to do some steelhead, salmon and sturgeon fishing as well as dungeness crabbing on the trip. Gotta figure out how to get everything into the car!

I'm open to suggestions on where to go and what to do. I've never been to Astoria or Seaside.

Thanks for any advice.

It sounds like you're a World Mark member, but if not, you may wanna check out the Old Wheeler Hotel.  It's got a funky vibe and is fairly reasonable in price.  Good eats within walking distance, too.

Not much in the salmon/steelhead department around this time of year in the bay.  Steelhead are here but much farther up river (non SOT kayak water), salmon are long gone.  There are always opportunities for crabbing and some for Sturgeon (very tight lipped, including mine ;D, fishery).  The Wheeler Inn is a nice place to stay and a totally different vibe than Seaside.

I am a Wyndham member (got 161,000 points on eBay for $1.00 last year). Still haven't used them.

I booked three nights next week at Wheeler on the Bay Marina & Lodge.

Any hints on sight seeing, etc.?

Some may be touristy, but you can do a lot in Wheeler...

Paddling the channels around the northern most "islands" in the bay, eating at the Rising Star (chef Ron is amazing - go there!), Nehalem Bay Winery (decent fruit wines - ask for the apple jack), rumaging through the antique/thrift stores (the art deco-themed one is pretty cool), traveling a bit and checking out the trails in the state park.

You'll have fun.  But seriously, grab the missus for a night out, and go see Chef Ron.  Seriously.  Go there.

Taking a road trip down 101 is hard to beat.  Between Devil's punchbowl, various capes, lighthouses, jetties, etc, it's all very beautiful.

If the weather cooperates the Large Sandhill at Barview State Park is a lot of fun for the little ones. The lake just south of Rockaway I think was stocked also.
