Just got back from Hagg Lake and wow, that was the best time I've ever had fishing.  I've been a bank angler so today was a first for a lot of things.

First thanks to D-Rock at KayakShed out in Hood River for getting me setup with my Hobie Revo 13.  It's a great ride!

I had today off and the weather looked like it was going to be somewhat decent so I decided to head off to Hagg.  I've been hoping to get my first day on my Yak sooner than today but work and still getting my equipment together made the first outing later than I wanted, anyway....

I was basically the only person launching at boat ramp C and the local harbor police gave me an inspection.  How nice!  They checked for my invasive species permit which I had on me and asked if I had a whistle or some other noise making device which I didn't.  One of the officers gave me a whistle and said it's normally a $142 ticket if I didn't have one on.

Getting launched for the fist time was a bit awkward only compounded by the fact that I had my rudder secured under a bungee (for transport) so i had to land again to pull it out.  Once I got that straightened out I was off to the races.

The short of it is I enjoyed using my fish finder and enjoyed motoring around to different spots to see where the fish were hanging out.  Mostly 30-15 feet, at least the areas where I was.  I had a couple fish on but didn't get one landed.  Definitely learned a lot of things and know the things I need to tweak on my boat.  Can't wait for the next trip!

Congrats on getting out there on a beautiful day.  Trust me when I say this, you are by no means the first to forget to get the rudder out from under the bungie.  I think I do this half the time I launch.  ::)  It makes for some squirrely pedaling.

A quick fix for this is to just reach back with your paddle, slide the blade under the bungee and pop it off.   ;)

Great job on getting out. Water conditions would make it extremely tough to get bit. You did amazingly well hooking up a few times. You are already the 1% :)

Thanks guys.  Good to hear that I'm not the only one with the forgeting the rudder!  Good tip on using the paddle to pop it out too.

Was wondering why the boat wasn't tracking :)

You picked a great ride. Congrats. Don't know how many times I've forgotten to un-bungee the rudder :o and I use the same method as Rawkfish so I don't have to go back in.

Congrats on the sweet Revo! I'm also a member of the rudder bungee circle (pun intended). That's one reason to carry an emergency paddle, steers you nicely when pedaling.

I'll be making my first trip to Hagg Wednesday early with my son from CA. SteveHawk and Craig are also going to be there to provide native guide services ;-)

If you can sneak away come join the flotilla.

Actually DTS was light on tackle that day and I loaned him some gear.  He rigged his poles in the parking lot and used the rear of the Revo as a work bench.  This swivel must have rolled under the rudder at some point.  So, I stole my swivel back.  ;D

Ihop, I'm pretty sure I'm going to hit the sack hard on Wednesday morning (@9am).  We are in the middle of retooling for the next process start up in the Intel fab I work at.  Currently I'm the only person on my shift at the moment qualified to do anything in my area, and I'm looking down the barrel of four long 12 hour shifts, starting tonight.

And I'm currently out of the anchors right now.  I did pick up more lead recently and will be making another batch of anchors in April.  Shoot me a PM with "Anchor" in the subject so I can keep track of your request.  Already have 4 guys in California and 4 guys in Oregon requesting one each.
